You guys are only against it because it's been benefitting the Bucs lately. If we were 12-5 and seeded below a 9-8 team you would all be crying.
It's a good proposal. Hope it passes.
What would be the point of divisions then??? Would be really damn stupid.
Scheduling and guarantee a playoff spot.
Winning your division should be the first thing measured. If you didn't win your division, someone else in your division did and they are from a regular season standpoint, better than you. If you came in second or third, you should be happy you are getting in at all. Re-seeding makes no sense, and is quite frankly, pink, soft, weak, and inane.
You sound stupid. If you didn't win your division the team that did will be seeded ahead of you. There is no argument for the Bucs being seeded above the Vikings last year.
Of course there is. We won our division. Also, we beat the Lions on the road. The Vikings accomplished neither of these things. Debate your mom...

Are you implying the Bucs would have won the NFC North?

I may regret this lol
Isn't the proposal the opposite scenario? The Bucs win the division but are seeded behind the Vikings and Packers, both with more wins? The Bucs play the Eagles in Philly even though they won the division?
I thought the proposal was ranking all by wins:
"The proposal, revised to make it read a little more cleanly, would take the seven playoff participants (division winners and three wild cards) and seed them based on record."
Winners from bad divisions already get the double benefit of 1) being able to get in at only 9-8 or 10-7 while 2) playing six games against mediocre division opponents. And then 3) they get a home playoff game.
Despite the Bucs being the beneficiaries in recent years, I'm in favor of the reseeding.
I'm in favor of the reseeding.
why?
The NFL has shown its TV for them, but what is it from a fan perspective

I agree
Just out of fairness IMO. Winners of bad divisions have an advantage just because they're playing the bad teams. If you want a home playoff game you should have the better record. If it's a tie record then fine the division winner should factor into the tiebreaker.I'm in favor of the reseeding.

Fair point. Thanks
I guess no right or wrong because it goes both ways. A team that plays in a weak division is getting 5 or 6 wins.
if we look at last year I am not sure the Packers are better then the Bucs but their record is better even being 2nd or maybe 3rd in their division so they get the home playoff game and the Bucs go away to the Eagles? Not sure that's fair
interesting
The NFL will do what makes them money - but I think what offsets the concept of weak divisions having some advantage - is a resulting first place schedule.Just out of fairness IMO. A weak team would/could get lucky/hot against weak competition - make the playoffs, once. However, that team would not be capable of being more than a 1 and out in the play-offs, and also lucky after drawing a harder schedule the next season (you can’t consistently get lucky/hot, season-to-season).
if a team from a weak division, moves two games deep in a he playoffs and only loses to a perceived superior by a touchdown, especially in the last minutes of a game…well it’s hard to make a case that A) the viewership/add-buy wasn’t high, B) That the perceived inferior team should not have had a home wildcard game.
And C) comes back the next season, wins one more game against better competition, beats that inferior team and the eventual Super Bowl champion in the regular season, and then falls to a hot wildcard team sporting a rookie-phenom, in a nail biter….again in the last moments… Well it kinda destroys the Lions argument.
So, it’s not about fairness, it’s about marketing a narrative that allows for increased add-revenue potential.
I don’t like the change, but I expect it to be approved.

acknowledging upfront this is not my area, but if they go to more of a conference approach, so seeding teams based on their record, do they change the regular season to have more of a conference approach too? Maybe only play division once? Not sure thats possible. Haven't really given it much thoght.
Theres an article that suggest the proposal does not get by this year

I was referring to within your own division, specifically the Lions and Vikings.

Yes but am I accurately describing the proposal? If it applied last year the Bucs play their first playoff game away against the Eagles?

Why wouldn't we? We beat Detroit in their own back yard. Did the same with Green Bay two years ago. We need to slow down on "Man, this division is really tough" type bullshit. It's the NFL. Every damn team is good.
