If Trask played this year, Bucs went 9-8, and he had Baker Mayfield's numbers, those same fans that Critique Baker, would be applauding Trask
Well, one of them is a #1 overall pick, who's on his 4th team in 6 years.
The other is a 2nd round pick who's never played a meaningful down.
So, yeah, the expectations would be different.
Imagine that.
and imagination is all we will be able to utilize as it comes to Kyle Trask
Speaking of which.
I'm starting to notice that you think/post/talk about Trask more than the supposed "Trask Supporters".
Telling...
Some of our best players are a bit injured. I hope they are taking care of their bodies first and foremost, and then listening to their trainers guidance. I have great faith in Trask as well. I think he just hasnt been given a real shot to show off his arm. Who knows, that may come vs the Eagles if Baker's body isnt ready to go! He's been sitting for 2 years learning and waiting patiently for his shot to shine....its always been like that for him. Anyhoo, happy Humpday ma dudes. Dueces 🍺 for now.
If Trask was worth a damn, Baker would never have been signed.
Yes. Obviously. Some posters on here believe that if he doesn't play in a regular season NFL game that coaches, front office, scouts aren't able to assess his ability. The fact of the matter is he has shown so little in practice, his mechanics, etc the first 2 years that they didnt have confidence in giving him the starting gig like the Commanders did with Sam Howell.
heading into that draft, Davis Mills was the better QB prospect. then i'd say Kyle Trask followed by Kellen Mond. Neither of the three have amounted to anything with 2 out of the three likely to be out of the league in another 2 years. Davis Mills had some playing time and played half decent, albeit not good enough to be their guy, and could maybe have a Mike Glennon/Blain Gabbert/Chad Henne type back-up role where he could see some time due to injury.
Entering this off-season the job was there for the taking and Trask got the most off-season reps imaginable. However, they brought in competition. And man, they brought in a former #1 overall pick that was just superior. If they would have brought in Jacoby Bisset, Case Keenum, or a Trevor Siemian, Trask may have won the starting gig or at the very least would have been starting by week 8 like many of us projected with a Baker Mayfield flop. It just didn't happen.
I understand why fans on this board want Trask to be the answer. Who doesn't want their Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow? We all do. It's just not realistic. If Trask played this year, Bucs went 9-8, and he had Baker Mayfield's numbers, those same fans that Critique Baker, would be applauding Trask.
Let's upgrade from Baker. I'm all for it. But give a realistic option and quite frankly, given out draft status, the only 2 possible alternatives for 2024 are Kirk Cousins and Russell Wilson. Highly unlikely we are in the mix for either of them with Minnesota, Denver, Atlanta, and Pittsburgh likely in the market for their services. I'd probably suggest Cousins goes back to Minny with Russell to Atlanta but don't rule out Denver (Cousins) and Pittsburgh (Wilson) getting in the mix.
Yeah man, sadly you may be correct. I do tend to err on the side of optimism, but reality and facts are just that, reality and facts. But not even they can keep me from crossing my fingers ANYWAY 🥂 !!! GOOOO BUCS!!!. GOOOO BAKER!!!! GOOOO TRASK (IF NEED BE SHINE!!! MTHAFKA!!!). I always disliked the Iggles anyway, ever since McNabb and that nightmare!

oh hell yeah, dont worry, if we are down 14-0 at half, i am going to be clamoring for Trask too
no matter who the QB is, GO BUCS! (As any true Buc Fan would agree)
Funny thing is Baker wasn't superior he got outperformed on the field in training camp, he won off the field. There just so much Baker can clean up, he needs to really take this offseason and work on getting better, get a qb coach who can help him and drill, because he is not good and needs the work, he was able to look like the #1 overall pick in college but he had lincoln rileys air raid offense that has produced multiple #1 overall picks but thats because of the system and the players around him, he needs to clean up his game
So again, hope Trask is great but boy if you weave together all of positions taken by Trask supporters Trask is basically a top ten NFL QB?
He’s better than mayfield, right? Trask supporters were calling for Trask in October, so they had to believe he would do better Trask also supposedly best out Mayfield in the preseason, right?
Trask is better now than Geno Smith, the darling of the NFL last year? He must because Mayfield outplayed Smith “in the same offense” so Mayfield > Smith and Trask > Mayfield
Trask is like who then? CJ Stroud?
Seriously, if Trask was the starter this year he outpaces Mayfield (who outpaced Brady) so Trask throws 4800 yds? 35 TDs 8 INTs?
who would that compare him to THIS season?
Jared Goff, maybe?
Jordan Love?
even if you think he’d just match Mayfield - most seem to think he’s better (like above) - he’d be in the top level of QBs, statistically?
I can't stand the "well who do you want to be the QB then in 2024 if not Baker?" attempted rebuttal.
Someone else.
Let's not pretend like this isn't an overall solid roster in what is likely the worst division in football. We won the 100m at the special olympics. Paying Baker anything longer than a 1 year deal that has a significant impact on the cap will be a disaster. Paying him may very well mean that Evans is gone.
Hopefully we go into this offseason with our options open much like we did in 2020 when Brady came available or last year landing a value stop gap in Baker on the cheap.
Ultimately the best option historically would be the draft, especially given the QB talent that is in this class. Grabbing the 3rd of 4th QB would be costly, but at a certain point we are going to have to take a shot on a guy in the draft or make a trade for a guy like Fields to give us a long term prospect with a lot of upside....and it isn't Trask either.
well who do you want to be the QB then in 2024 if not Baker?
I am not sure that is an unfair question and anyway dont you answer it by saying no more than 1 yr deal for Mayfield and move up to get "3rd or 4th best guy." And, no to Trask.
That is a legit response. A good answer. A reasonable response. Its a REALISTIC path forward. I dont think the Bucs go that path, but that is definitely a legit path they could follow.
I think the "who do you want if not Baker" question is probably a reflection of the fact that when it comes to Mayfield there is mostly a lot of pouting and foot-stamping, as opposed to a real alternatives. A lot (not all) of the strong criticism of Mayfield has come from Trask supporters. If you condense their position down its either:
(a) play Trask over Mayfield because he is better or,
(b) play Trask because this should, essentially, be a throw away year, even the playoffs.
Obviously, (b) was NEVER realistic with Bowles coaching for his job. Never. And yet you can see that exact type of response posted here as recently as this morning or yesterday.
As to (a), above I try to get people to link their expectation of Trask to a current QB. No takers yet. Maybe Trask is Jordan Love? Not sure, but the Gators on the board are likely in the best position to hazard a guess.
We'll see.

It is difficult to compare Trask to any starting QB because he hasn't had the opportunity to play. However, it's not difficult to think he would be better than Mayfield because of the preseason comparison, Mayfield's play in season, and how Trask played in the SEC.
Was watching Dolphins hard knocks and they were talking about Zach Wilson and it reminded me of Mayfield. When it's a clean pocket and his pre-snap read is open he can absolutely spin it. That's why he was drafted #2 overall. Same reason why Baker was drafted #1 overall. But when his access throws are denied and there's chaos in the pocket he simply cannot operate. The processing is just too slow.

Spot on.
Not sure why the 2-3 simpletons don't get this.
They ask things like:
"So, do you think he's better than Baker"
"Who's his comp"
That's literally the whole damn point. We KNOW what Baker is. We DON'T KNOW what Trask is.
I can now say it was a wasted pick, simply because of the HC situation.
Last year, there was ZERO shot that Trask would've seen the field. Even if he was better than Gabbert. There's no chance in hell that Bowles would've played a virtual unknown in what was to be the last year of a supposed "SB Window".
And, going into this year, yes. The competition was tight during camp and preseason.
But, Bowles (and possibly Licht...though I doubt it) knowing he's going into a "make or break" season, would never anoint Trask the starter. He went with the vet.
If Trask had started from the start, we'd either:
- Find out that we have a QB that we can build around, a potential franchise signal caller
- Find out that Trask isn't NFL-starting material, and likely be in the Williams, Maye, Daniels hunt
Instead, we were "just good enough" to finish a game above .500, win the worst division in football, and essentially force our hand to build the future of the team around Baker Mayfield.
Listen, I'd love to be wrong and Baker turns into a franchise QB that leads us to another title. But, there's nothing in his previous (or current) body of work that would suggest he will.
Lastly, I don't think Licht would've gone the rookie QB route anyways. He did it already and it failed. He won a SB by putting together a stacked team with a vet QB (who just so happened to the GOAT).
I think that's what his mindset is now. And, if Baker flames out, he'll look to bring in a big FA quarterback in 2-3 years from now.

of course he can get better but your delusional if you think Trask outperformed Baker. you must believe everything "authority' tells you, eh?

i mean it's a legit question lol. i'm not the kind to point fingers but rather let's find solutions.
"but i want better...waaaa waaaa (crying baby impersonation attempt!)" is not an adult response.
The roster is mid tier talent, anywhere from 12th best to 18th best. Our best highlight is having 2 stud WRs but we probably rank 5th in the current playoff pool there. Of course us Buc Fans over-rate the talent because we are close to the players as we root for them every week but to think guys like Olson, White, and anyone else on the offense not named Wirfs, Evans or Godwin are not just JAGS, we are kidding ourselves
Mayfield is a 12th to 18th best QB. he ranked top 10 this year in many stats but with several QB injuries he would be bounced down a bit.
Justin Fields? ehh. hasn't really shown much in Chicago but i like the attempt. At least you offered a somewhat capable name

Being that you're so close to the players, who the hell is Olson?
Oh, and who are the other 4 playoff teams with a superior #1-#2 WR combo?
