Getting fired in 2008 was the best thing that could have happened to Gruden. He got to go out on a winning season and didn't have to coach the 2009 team to a 4-12 record and then get fired.

On a side note, was anyone really surprised to find out that Alex Smith, TE, is still in the NFL?

"Jeff Garcia, the 43-year-old quarterback who hasn’t thrown an NFL pass in five years, is interested in a comeback  . . ."

Raheem Morris paid about $2 million to be the HC and DC.  But we did sign a punter and a kicker during his tenure .........

The Buccaneers signed Free Agents to over $100M in contracts in 2011, most of that money being pissed away on crappy players.

Mostly resigning scrubs right (Joseph, Trueblood, Black, ?)    I think that is the year they splurged on a punter though

Let's not forget Gruden's plan for 2009 before he got fired was to sign Albert Haynesworth, TJ Houshmanzadeh, and Brandon Jacobs. In other words, he had no plan.

Awful personnel decisions, that were defended by a couple of posters I'm sure you could guess, but the team did spend money.

Gruden's plan was to fill in where needed and go win football games.  Obviously it didn't always work.

So we spent almost no money for at least 2 years and then reversed it if you will by overspending on scrubs with pretty team friendly contracts if I recall.

The only year the Bucs didn't spend a lot of new money in the offseason was 2010. Ironically, that year they had the best record they've had in almost a decade.

Paying Davin Joseph $19M , Jeremy Trueblood $8+M, and Quincy Black $12M over two seasons isn't very team friendly at all.  Those dudes were overpaid big time, reminiscent of Bruce Allen's 2004 offseason.

Admittedly their lack of spending is somewhat exaggerated by the complete ineptness of how the money they did spend what was spent.  But they did a whole lot of shopping out of the bargain bin.

damn  . . . who knew the Glazers were "cheap" because they dedicated a BOAT LOAD of money to the wrong players . . . . Quincy Black definitely thinks the Glazers are "cheap" . .  as does Carl Nicks  . .  Charlie Garner  . . Jeff Faine . . . and they were RIGHT! Bad money don't spend!

Nicks wasn't a bad signing it just has worked out to be a crappy one because he hasn't played. Garner, Faine, Black, he's those weren't very good ones.
