Can I ask who the coach that would have made you excited was?
I love the hire. At least now we will be able to bring in a free agent DE. That wasn't going to happen under Schiano. No more kneel down play. Praise the Lord!!!!!!!#nomorelaughingstock
Agree Golden

Nothing at all wrong with the kneel down play if you are within one score. Nothing screams "I accept losing" more than the kneel down at the end of games. I'd rather see the team walk back to the locker room than stand there looking stupid. What the hell is the point of the defense even lining up in formation on the kneel down play? Just stay in the defensive huddle and watch. That is one thing Schiano did I was totally on board with. If you still have a chance to win the game, then you need to try. #thelaughingstockwillbetheteamthatfumblesandlosesthegamewhilekneelingdown

Thank God that stuff is over with. That kneel down did more damage to our credibility then you will obviously ever know.
The kneel down play is equivalent to intentionally fouling someone at the end of an NBA game if you're within a score or two. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it, but people around here like to make up things to complain about. I shouldn't be surprised, look how many happy people there are that we just hired a coach as equally inept regarding the offense as they believe Schiano was. Very interesting fan base.

Right....because you are the measuring stick of our credibility. Wins and losses breed credibility measurements.
Dexter Jackson ?@DJackson_MVP 24mCongrats to Lovie Smith. Tampa has a man with class.

Welcome to Tampa! I'm shocked you didn't know this long ago.

I can't believe how many people think a head coach is going to call offensive plays. Especially a defensive minded head coach. That is ridiculous. Head Coach is the relegator of duties not the guy who calls plays. I am surprised how many people have been watching this backwards franchise for so long they don't even know how it's supposed to be done. Head Coach, offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator are three entirely different jobs for three entirely different people. Got it?
Yea hiring Lovie doesn't make any difference to the offense. The offensive coordinator is the important hire. It seems a lot of analyst types are very high on Tedford as well. As far as if this was a good coaching hire - it's pretty much being universally celebrated as a fantastic hire by the media, analysts, players, past coaches and the majority of the fan base. But apparently some on here know more than them. Because Martz and Tice couldn't put a prolific offense together. If anything, at the bare minimum, just be excited that it's addition by subtraction. There was a 50/50 feeling we'd still have Schiano right now.
can you imagine how good McCoy will be next year with nfl level guys coaching him and no more stunting every play?
I'm willing to make a guarantee that Lovie Smith WILL be the next coach of the Bucs. Why? Here's my thoughts:First, when the Glazers hired Morris, what they had in mind was not only his comparison to Mike Tomlin, but also to the highly respected Lovie Smith. I've no doubt that if Smith was available then, he would be our coach now.Second, Smith is a 'safe' hire. He has a winning record, he has been to the super bowl. He has ties to the Bucs and to Tony Dungy. Everyone knows that the Glazers have to get a coach that will be here for more than 3 years and Lovie Smith will do that.Third, the defense is closer than the offense and Smith is a defensive coach. As fans, we might not want to hear this, but when you have to face Brees, Newton and Ryan and you don't have a bona fide franchise quarterback yourself, you're best bet is to have a defense that can shut down the other teams quarterbacks.Fourth, he's not a coach that's going to embarrass you in the media, not that Schiano did that - but Lovie understands the media better than Schiano did and the media, especially the Tampa media will get along very well with Smith. Finally, he's a name that the casual fan knows, he'll garner instant credibility and help restore some needed enthusiasm in the Tampa area, especially if he can bring a few other 'name' coaches with him. The only way that Lovie Smith is NOT our next head coach is if he turns us down for another offer. As far as GM, goes there are a lot of other former Tampa connected names still available. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that Smith comes with his own hand picked GM (think Jerry Angelo). JMO.
Called it.

Grats on calling something the experts figured would happen before you posted that. :)

Yeah, but I was the first to offer a guarantee :). There were some doubts, you have to agree.
