I'm pleased with this hire. Strong personality and a good coach.

I'm willing to make a guarantee that Lovie Smith WILL be the next coach of the Bucs. Why? Here's my thoughts:First, when the Glazers hired Morris, what they had in mind was not only his comparison to Mike Tomlin, but also to the highly respected Lovie Smith. I've no doubt that if Smith was available then, he would be our coach now.Second, Smith is a 'safe' hire. He has a winning record, he has been to the super bowl. He has ties to the Bucs and to Tony Dungy. Everyone knows that the Glazers have to get a coach that will be here for more than 3 years and Lovie Smith will do that.Third, the defense is closer than the offense and Smith is a defensive coach. As fans, we might not want to hear this, but when you have to face Brees, Newton and Ryan and you don't have a bona fide franchise quarterback yourself, you're best bet is to have a defense that can shut down the other teams quarterbacks.Fourth, he's not a coach that's going to embarrass you in the media, not that Schiano did that - but Lovie understands the media better than Schiano did and the media, especially the Tampa media will get along very well with Smith.Finally, he's a name that the casual fan knows, he'll garner instant credibility and help restore some needed enthusiasm in the Tampa area, especially if he can bring a few other 'name' coaches with him. The only way that Lovie Smith is NOT our next head coach is if he turns us down for another offer. As far as GM, goes there are a lot of other former Tampa connected names still available. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that Smith comes with his own hand picked GM (think Jerry Angelo). JMO.

Called it.

Grats on calling something the experts figured would happen before you posted that. :)

Yeah, but I was the first to offer a guarantee :). There were some doubts, you have to agree.

Is it a money back guarantee? Hopefully we don't need that. :p

Another stupid hire.  I can't believe the Glazer's aren't learning anything.

::)

How'd those last 2 coaches (defensive-minded), turn out?

Badly, how'd Jon Fox, Bell Bellichek, Mike Smith, Pete Carroll, John Harbaugh for example work out? All those guys have defensive backgrounds.

The problem with the kneel down play wasn't the act of playing hard till the final whistle.  After all, a lot of times a team lines up to take a knee and then the qb runs around for a bit.  The problem is the execution where everyone lines up low and goes after the knees.  If any team would have been justified, it was the Bears Sunday night when they knew the season was over if there wasn't a turnover.  Yet, they didn't.Welcome Lovie!  Proud to be a Buc fan again.  Just renewed for the 29th time.

I have no problem with the my team crashing the kneel down IF the other team is aware it's going to happen. I think the original issue was that it caught the Giants by surprise because they did expect it. After that 1st time, no one else complained. If Schiano had instructed his team to inform the other team that we were indeed 'coming' like we could have, there would have been no controversy. When the game is a one score game and less than 2 minutes on the clock, I don't want to see my team in 'give up' mode. Play hard until the end of the game!

The kneel down was one of the only things I actually liked that Schiano did.

Can I ask who the coach that would have made you excited was?

To be honest I wouldn't get "excited" over any coach, it's more about feeling hope and that was erased with this hire for me.When there is no hope staying interested is far harder.I'd have been more "excited" if we had gone out and got an offensive minded guy after failing with 2 defensive guys, with this hire it's a case of the more things change the more they stay the same.Poor offense and a "great" defense hoping to squeak by in games.I find it hard to get behind a guy who for whatever reason....Missed the playoffs in 5 of 6 season to end his run in Chicago.Coached the team with the second worst offense in the entire league during his tenure and we're handing him an offense that finished 32nd in the league by a large margin.For a guy who is a defensive genius, and that is meant to be one of his main selling points, somehow his Bears had 5 of 9 seasons where the D ranked outside the top 10 for both points and yardage, for a defensive genius that isn't very impressive, I mean for true defensive powerhouse you have to go back a LONG way to try and find 5 year like that, hell for the Steelers it's happened 5 times in the last quarter century, Chuck Noll still had a half decade left in control.The NFL stands for Not For Long and is a what have you done for me lately league, lately Lovie has proven that after early success (generated mostly by a freakin returner) he flopped.The guy basically trades on a reputation built from 1 season 8 years ago and being a 1 great year in 3 as DC for the Rams (they were very average at best after that first year).I would say I've never seen so much hype for a guy with so little real success but that would be a lie, Jeff Fisher was even worse when he was interviewing.People that would have given me more hope even though they haven't got the experience (doesn't mean much if you really weren't that good while getting it) are guys like Roman, Gase, Bevell, Carmichael, Hugh Jackson.

If Lovie can find a franchise QB like those guys, then he could be alright.  As of right now, I'm skeptical... especially since he couldn't do it in Chicago all those years.
