Yes, Brown is a god tier headcase but everyone including the Bucs knew that LONG AGO. But we’re trying to win SBs in an extremely small window for a franchise that has SUCKED beyond belief for the vast majority of our lives..
I just heard on Rick Stroud’s podcast that he dug up that everything started/changed during Brown’s suspension. AB felt like the organization flipped on him, things were different/off. Of course this stems a lot from BA’s stance on the covid rules and lying to the organization. But the whole “We’ll see if we keep him once his suspension is up” schtick was not a good stance to manage the situation if you were not going to release Brown.
So forget the whole ankle was sore and the “he didn’t want to go in” crap. Going back weeks Brown simply didn’t like how he was treated by the puppet head honcho and covid cop (BA), which is fair for the team to be hard on a player who can handle it (like Mike Edwards) but Brown has to be managed differently so he helps you win SB’s instead of creating massive dysfunction for your team. But of course BA couldn’t help himself just like when he trashed Brady in his first game as a Buc last year at New Orleans during an off season where he barely could practice with his new team. Now BA had to screw up a player we needed badly after losing Godwin. BA’s ego is a huge reason for all this dysfunction.
My thing is, why keep Brown if you’re just going to be a hard ass and hold his suspension over his head knowing how Brown is? Just cut him and save the team from the drama. If you keep him than that’s it, just move the hell on with the SB run and just cut bait in the offseason, instead BA made things messy because he couldn’t get out of his FEELINGS. MANAGE better Bruce!!
I knew from the second I heard BA trying to play hard ass during Brown’s suspension that it would have repercussions later on.
I just didn’t see the benefit of BA being bad cop and pissy with so much on the line and continuing that after losing Godwin. The best thing to do if you’re concerned about winning is just to manage the situation and ride it out with AB until the end of the year. Don’t make him feel any type of way during a crucial stretch of the season and with injuries piling up.
I know all the counter arguments and reasons, don’t expect many to agree but that’s just my 2 cents right now. I’m just annoyed because I feel like our HC is on an ego trip when he’s really just along for the ride while he has the GOAT doing the real leading and heavy lifting.
