There were 13 games in Week One where more than 60% of the money was on one team, ranging from 66% on Denver to 82% on Chicago. In 5 games the heavily bet team covered the point spread: Minn, Phil, SF, Detr, and SD.In 8 games the heavily bet on team did not cover: NO, Pitt, Chic, KC, Jets, NE, TB, and Den. Assuming odds of 10 to 11, if 5 persons bet 110 on team A and 5 persons bet 110 on team B, the house wins 50 or 4.5% (50/1100)If 6 bet on team A and 4 on team B, if team A does not cover, the house wins 260 or 23.6%. If team A covers, the house looses 160 or 14.5%.In general the house wins about 60% of the heavily bet games. Think the playoffs and Superbowl from earlier this year. Thus there is a lot more money to be made by the house in being correct rather than trying to set the points so that there is an equal amount of money bet on both sides.
