Trade him for the picks, we need depth bad. Save the $16M. Cut Penn, Joseph, Zuttah, Barth for starters and save another $20M=$36M. That and with the projected increase of the cap to $135M and Lovie could have $45M to bring in about 15/20 FA's. LOvie and Licht are not going to hesitate to pull the trigger NOW! Oh yeah, get rid of Mr. Happy Time/Mike Williams too and save that money. Purge now, win now!
Especially when there is plenty of fat to be trimmed elsewhere....guys who get paid a lot and dont actually contibute ,like Davin and Nicks. Why would you start with a probowler like Revis ?
Because he has trade value. Here's a news flash for you guys: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers suck. We need players, lots of them. Trading an expensive 29 year old corner is EXACTLY where you start the rebuilding.
Very few are saying they wouldnt listen to offers. The reality of being offered something that reflects his value is minimal.
#1 and #4 from Philadelphia is fair. Would give us#7 overall#22 overall#38 overall#69 overall4th round (PHI)5th6th7th$34M of cap room. Licht and Smith can build the team how they want.

Personally, I dont like getting back less than we gave up for him. But I wouldnt hate that trade...just dont see anyone pulling the trigger on the other end.
It's technically more than what we gave up for him because trading him turns the deal into #1 and future #4 (which is now present). This deal is #1 and present #4.
The biggest problem with a trade of Revis is the team trading for him is very likely to want to restructure his deal. I'm not sure that's in the cards from Revis' standpoint. A trade currently may be harder to accomplish and take up more time than last years dance was although he's proven healthy.
Revis may indeed want to restructure for some guaranteed money. He's had a season to find out what it's like to play on a rebuilt knee.
I think a trade for the same amount would be easy.He proved to be an elite. Meaning, the guy can play zone/man coverage, IS healed and ready, and could still do it playing for a different team.We bought him when he was in a questionable state. Injury, and change. Now, with lovie and co, it's a logical question what revis's value is for this team going forward.I'd rather they keep him, and find some other way to get "their" qb.
He will not get less. They will take say $16m X 5 years ($80m) or whatever he has left. Convert it into a signing bonus of $42m and then add a couple of fake years onto the deal to make the annual hit less. He gets actual, real cash in hand which his current deal doesn't give, and then also draw a salary. This is sort bof like why as a lottery winner you take the cash now which is less than the "actual" amount that is paid out over 50 years.
a 40 mil signing bonus? And wouldn't those fake years cause dead money?

Please explain to me how picks #22 and #150 are worth more than #13 (2013) and #132.
Why would you guys want to create a big hole in our secondary for less compensation than we originally gave up? Do you remember what our pass defense looked like in 2012? Do we suddenly win games by having cap space? How colossally stupid. You don't give up a 1st and a 3rd round pick to heal up a premier player just to give him away for a lesser 1st and a 4th. If we lose him, who do we replace him with? The Glazers finally opened up the checkbook guys, be happy for a change.
Revis' salary is not prohibiting us from signing more players. We are NOT against the cap and still have room to spend. It's not your money, so wo cares?
trading Revis would be foolish. he's an elite talent, you don't trade that away

Present #4 is more valuable than future #4. Can't do anything with the fact that the Eagles pick #22 and we picked #13 last year. Although an argument could be made #22 this year is more valuable because of the quality of the draft.

We didn't suddenly win games because we acquired Revis, now did we?

We get our 3rd round pick back from the Jets and give them our 4th. Doesn't matter who they replace him with right away. We're not winning the Super Bowl either way. Acquiring Revis was a short term move that backfired. Trading him is a long term move.

And this the root of everyone who is pro-Revis. For some reason it's popped into your heads that big names, big contracts = wins. In the late 2000s people complained about not spending money was reason we weren't making the playoffs, but the real reason was we weren't drafting well. So 2012 and 2013 we break the bank and guess what? Still no playoffs. Why? Because we weren't drafting well. Now we're sitting here missing a premium pick in one of the deepest drafts in recent memory with perhaps the worst salary structure in the NFL and I'm supposed to be happy?
I think a lot of folks completely overvalue draft picks. The draft, espeically in the later rounds is an absolute crap shoot. Revis OTOH, is an elite talent and probably, at worst, in the top 3 at his position. Opposing teams have to gameplan for him. Now that he is fully recovered and playing in a competent scheme, he's probably going to be even better. I see that people are saying "get rid of him and fill the salary void with a top DE." First and foremost, a talented secondary compensates for a lacking pass rush. Look at Seattle. They have some decent pass rushers but their secondary is what really gives them those extra seconds to get to the QB. Pressure=picks/INCs, coverage=sacks. Second....where to we get this "top DE"? Do they grow on trees? Do they fall out of the sky? How about we draft a guy like Mack....or maybe even Clowney? Or sign Jared Allen? We can do this without getting rid of Revis. So...what it boils down to is grabbing a couple of extra draft picks. The guy we pick up with that additional pick....is he going to be an elite player? No way of knowing, right? So why get rid of one that we know is elite.
