Why would Cleveland trade for Revis?
I dont think they would, but they arent exactly the beacon for "smart football decisions".
What sense does it make to trade Revis? If the Bucs trade Revis they will have to use one of those premium picks they receive on his replacement. There is no need to trade away Revis when his salary is not hurting our cap space.
Revis is a bad fit for this team at this time. New regime, personell that is going to be based on being the BEST FIT...If we had a qb this would never come up, Revis on a team with no quarterback and horrible depth is a joke.
Tell me how he is a bad fit. In what way? Who is a better fit that we could sign or draft? What would you like our cornerback group to look like in 2014? My opinion is Revis is the best fit we could possibly hope for. He is a rock we can build our defense around. A respected member of the locker room, and (since he's happy and well paid in his opinion) a great teammate. And we can totally afford him while doing anything and everything else the new regime wants to do (that I consider productive, not spending 13 mil per season on Hardy, etc).
He's a bad fit because this team is not ready to win (no depth, no qb) .Licht wants to build through the DRAFT and blue chip FA's, he's not in the mold of spending huge $ on one guy...unless the team is a serious contender. Revis can fit and be kept but it's not going to be smooth every step because we don't have enough blue chip players on the team. That's going to take time to develop in house. The guy is no spring chicken and is making 5-6mil more than any other DB.
Teams who are "ready to win" typically dont have $16M in available cap space.
I think everyone here knows that.
Not really. Anyone suggesting we trade him dont follow the logical steps down that road. Yea, it sounds nice if you want to wave a magic wand and trade him...but very few seem to ask themselves "To who?" You have to find a team who is both A) a good CB away from contending and B) has the ability to absorb that contract. There are maybe 3 teams who fit that mold. Then you have to think about what we would want in return. We took the gamble and rolled the dice that he would return to form, and he did. So for our gamble, the powers that be will want more than what we gave up. So now, out of those 3 teams, you have to find one willing to give up a 1st and 2nd at minimum. Ill be the first to say nothing is impossible...but most of you guys talk like this is Madden.
I think the premise is that there are teams looking to do a trade, not including the Bucs... so, they must think it's doable.
Damn. I'd swear cap space won football games....
Dude do you understand how many holes this team has??? OL, WR TE should I keep going???? He is one guy and over paid at that
And how do you want to fill those holes? You can't get rid of Revis and then buy a bunch of overpriced free agents and think that's going to fix your problems. This isn't Madden. This isn't baseball.Yeah we would get a couple picks in return, but considering this franchise's draft history...Im not confident they will make the right picks.
If LaCanfora sees a wall without **CENSORED** stuck to it, he can't help himself.
This. Lmao man, LaCanfora is such a clown.
If we did trade him, which I really don't think will happen, Gilbert would have to be our first pick.
On to the next topic. LaCanfora is throwing hard today. Revis isn't going anywhere.
I'd do it for the Browns' 1st and 2nd round pick. Sorry....but I would.
And then you'd draft Donald with the first pick and trade the second for Chad Spann. Nice.
So fucking dumb. You guys say cb has no depth, but you want to trade the only proven one who happens to be one of the best ever. You say cap space, but the bucs have an estimated 17mil without any rollover figured in. Add in the fact the cap may raise a small chunk and the bucs are looking well over 20 mil in cap space not including any roster cuts to save money. The nfl is a passing league now and he can only cover one man.....blah, blah, blah. The nfl has been a passing league for well over a decade. Never mind the fact that revis joined the nfl in 2007. So the whole landscape has changed in the last 3-4 years? Once again, stupid. If you want more cap space beyond the 20+ million(could be closer to 30 when all is said and done) cut overpaid players like Joseph, pen, or even restructure big contract guys(McCoy isn't likely to continue making this years salary if restructured). The solution is to trade away the proven best, for a few pics that may or may not amount to nothing to have extra money the bucs won't need this year or even next. The solution is to create a terrible hole at cb and run with garbage or a banks who had an ok rookie year...maybe draft another one or two who may be ok. Stupid.Unless some team offers a ridiculous offer, no one in their right mind would deal revis in the bucs situation. The Bucs could literally sign a Brady/Rodgers/Bree's type contract and still have cap space...that's before cutting any dead weight. They could sign the top 5 fas this year and still likely have cap space. The only legitimate argument is you don't like revis. Any other suggestion of a legitimate point all hinges on a hypothetical future cap strapped bucs team. Financially this team is set up to do pretty much whatever and sign almost anybody they want within reason over the next few years. Only way to get into trouble is to keep paying the under performers and sign every overpriced fa on the market the next 3+ years. Then you get clowns who say revis was supposed to I be the franchise turn around and that freeman failed to live up to expectations. Pretty sure the defense performed well even with schianos fucked up scheme. You literally suggest making the defense worse to get some extra pics while the bucs seem to have no real answer on offense other than the hopes that glennon will develop. So not only will the offense still struggle, but we make the defense worse to get a couple young guys you can hopefully build around. There's so much stupid in this thread, it makes me ashamed to be associated with such "fans".

MUST.... HAVE... SHINY.... NEW... TOY!!!

Ok I see what you're saying now. But remember I haven't said I want Revis gone...only that he is a mistake that we are tied to because we gave up picks.Like you said you don't trade him unless it's more than a 1 & a 3, unless you get more... he plays for the Bucs.I haven't even given much thought which teams would trade for him, just don't think it's in the cards for us.

Nope. I'd take a QB with the Browns' 1st, and then replace Revis with Gilbert at #7. I love Donald, but a blockbuster trade like that would change things. Have to adapt to the new situation.
Licht: Darrelle would you be okay playing in Cleveland?
Who are you going to put on the other side of Banks? Leonard Johnson? An overpriced free agent? You'd end up having to use one of the premium picks to draft the replacement which kills the whole motivation to trade. Now if we were loaded with talent at CB, then you have a different argument. But after banks.....we have no one. This is why it would require multiple high picks to make us interested.

Yup. Revis won't be traded because behind him there's nobody worth being a starter...just like many other positions on the team.
