There are plenty of scenarios where this can still be a good thing. One would be if we sue that $16M in cap space to sign CB Verner and DE Johnson. We'd still have our $30M in cap space to reboot the O-line and grab a WR or whatever else we need.If we end up trading him we could get top CB like Gilbert or Fuller in the 1st round....and still have our original 1st. That's great. Plus we'd get back the 69th pick of the draft and lose the 110th instead...which is pretty big in this draft. That 69th pick is most likely going to be a starter. The 110th? Maybe. So imagine Verner, Johnson, and Gilbert or Fuller.....plus we still have our 1st and 3rd and all our cap room. That, to me, is a better situation than keeping Revis. Let's wait and see how this turns out before everyone goes batsh!t crazy. It has potential to go horribly wrong, but I say give Lovie/Licht a chance first and see what they can do with this situation.
Lovie has never had a first round corner. He is about to waive the best CB in the game. They aren't drafting a CB in the first round.

Unpossible!!Lovie is the WORST. COACH. EVAH!!Red Board filled with teenage girls all of a sudden. Mean daddy Licht might take away their iPhone

Gilbert is a ball hawk and also an amazing kick returner. Two things that Lovie covets. I wouldn't be so quick to write him off.
I can see this being a cluster fudge. It already seems to me the Bucs are lubing up. Their own butts.
Also....could this mean we actually are gonna sign Melton? That could be pretty sick. Of course that would mean no Aaron Donald, but I think I could be ok with that. :)

I'm not saying it won't be, but we are brainwashed to expect it. How about we give Lovie and Licht a chance? Maybe they aren't going to continue the embarrassing habits of the past regimes. Maybe they actually know what they are doing. I for one am not jumping ship yet. I wanna see what their plan is.
Release the best CB in the game. It's the buccaneer way.

and im positive this is the concept here. Perfectly fine. We really shouldnt have gone after Revis in the first place. I mean look at all the scenarios that could have happened last year if we decided to keep the first round pick and spent 16 mil else where. Like I think you said earlier, we could have had Shields, Grimes, and a 1st round pick. Shoot we could have practically cut all our CBs and went with SHields, Grimes, and Munnerlyn as the corners. and signed Bennet, and still have a first rounder.
Nobody is jumping ship. But this is a questionable move. No depth. And Tilman is too god damned old. He is roasted already. Banks? Johnson? Gorrer? Barron isn't that good in coverage. And Goldson flat out is a liability. Where is the contingency? Why couldn't they use Revis this year? HisContract is what it is. It will be the same next year. If the team is in a better place, it makes more sense to dump him then...maybe get something out of him. Why the urgency is what I am asking? Plus, he is their top jersey seller. Makes no sense.
Lovie lets Revis walk, it will be remarkably stupid. No two ways about it.
Joe Haden has been the best corner prospect since Revis and has 100% lived up to his billing and he's still not in the same stratosphere as Revis. Richard Sherman is an absolute beast. He plays a lot of zone, doesn't follow around a number 1 reciever, and only plays one side of the field. The gap between a healthy Revis and the #2 corner in the league is huge. Banks and Johnson with another year of experience will only grow as young, cheap #2 and #3 corners.Unless you can flip him to St Louis for the pick (hell, I'd even swap to assure Bridgewater or Manziel or Clowney) and Janoris Jenkins, might as well keep him.Have people forgotten that his contract is just a bunch of strung together 1 year deals? Why not make this move or make him restructure when we actually have to? All this crap does now is create a distraction.

It will suck if we don't get anyone to trade us something, but if we use the $16M to sign Melton, Johnson, and Tillman.....and draft a top corner like Gilbert......how can that be a bad thing? or what if we sign Melton, Tillman, Munnerlyn, and Walter Thurman....then draft Mack? It's not as simple as you are making it. It depends on what happens next.

If he is so valuable and worth $16M......why won't any teams trade for him? Why does nobody want him at that price if it is a reasonable price?

So we basically throw away our top corner in the NFL and a young 2nd round pick corner who showed a lot of promise just to play with new toys? The only "star" we have that should be shopped is Martin because running backs legitimately grow on trees and can be found basically everywhere.
