Revis certainly isn't to blame for any of this.
Hope that's sarcasm
Doubt it. And he won't make 16m elsewhere either. The irony is that all this does is job the Bucs.
I am done with Revis. He will be cut and ultimately screw the next team he signs with. Good riddance
Revis is looking out for himself - as he should. Him and his agent did a masterful job of putting themselves in this situation (and Dominik/Glazers/Schiano were morons). Why should he take a pay cut? Why shouldn't he force himself to go to a team he can choose for the money he chooses? Good for the guy, nothing against him at all. Not his responsibility to worsen his own situation to help the Bucs out - of a mess they put themselves in.

Pretty much it.

But here's the thing. He won't make 16m there either. So it's not really self-preservation. It's jagoff ness.
He's going to worsen his situation of he's released also. No one is paying him 16 mil any where else which is why no one is trading.

Right. So all he's doing is doing a number on us. This isn't a moral thing. It's him being a jerk.
Agree the Bucs put themselves in this position. Not many players worth that kind of money. He's not one of them. The hype around him being one of the best corners in the league is true but a corner shouldn't make 16 mil. Not in this defense. Try to get whatever you can for him at this point and forget about the big mistake the team made last year. It was a move they wanted to make to excite the fan base and it did that but it didn't work out and you have to be happy we can walk away with nothing more than a first and 4th. At least we won't owe him anymore money.
if you were Revis' agent you would be advising him to do EXACTLY what he is doing because what he is doing is best for him. Be mad at Dom for putting us in this position
SIGNED VERNERLATER REVIS
Revis will never see 16 mill a yr again. It was good while it lasted....LOL!!! But what could you expect when we brought him in. We thought we were a few pieces away from making the playoffs and we were far off base. Just happy to see the GM and HC make the right decision instead of trying to save face with the fans.

Sure - but he gets to choose his team and his salary. So let's say the Bucs offer him $13 mill/year with some guaranteed money. Why take that when he can go out, choose his team, and maybe make more than $13 mill. Or maybe make a little less but get to go play for a great organization (which the Bucs are not).He can choose to go to the 49ers or Patriots and help them win a SB. And you know what, if the next best offer is $10 mill, he can always come back to the Bucs. It's not personal AT ALL. He's just doing what's best for Revis (as he should) with the cards the Bucs handed to him. It's almost impossible for him to come out of this worse off (and btw, the Bucs aren't paying him $16 mill/year no matter what, so why get hung up on that?).

We really shouldn't have made the move to begin with but at this point it is what it is and at least Dom didn't put any guaranteed money in it. But still it would have helped to have that first rounder from last year.

I liked the trade (still would in hindsight) EXCEPT for the contract (which is very obvious now) - which killed any value for the Bucs. I thought he'd be here next year, but wasn't sure what the Bucs would do another year or two down the line when you'd need to resign McCoy and David (and at the time hopefully Freeman). The first round pick is the killer. Ultimately, the 4 players picked at 13-16: Sheldon Richardson, Star Lotuelei, Kenny Vaccaro, EJ Manuel. We could use every one of those players.
Welp, Verner for 4 years $26.5 mln per. Almost $10 mln less a year than Revis. Thought Verner would command much more, but this definitely helps blunt things a lil.Still wish we don't just cut the guy, but basically getting Michael Johnson and Verner for Revis if you look at it like that.
