Damn.  I'd swear cap space won football games....

Dude do you understand how many holes this team has??? OL, WR TE should I keep going???? He is one guy and over paid at that

We are under the cap...so how does that keep us from filling those holes?

So tired of this "argument".  People keep saying it like it makes sense.Whether we are under the cap or not with his salary is irrelevant.  What matters is what we could do with that salary other than paying one CB.  We can use up the rest of the cap space, then use up what we have spent on him.  I would rather see us convert his salary into a an elite passrusher, and/or multiple other players.  I would LOVE to convert him into some kind of picks, as that was the worst part of the deal -- not only did we overpay for him, but we lost out on a cheap first rounder as well.

You can be tired of it all you want, its factual.  It makes perfect sense.  Unless his salary is keeping us from filling other holes, then its a non issue.  Seeing as how we are under the cap, we have not been kept from signing anyone.  Until you get to the cap, who you pay what matters not.

Especially when there is plenty of fat to be trimmed elsewhere....guys who get paid a lot and dont actually contibute ,like Davin and Nicks. Why would you start with a probowler like Revis ?

Exactly, its far less crazy to pay Revis 16 than it is to pay Joseph 6, Zuttah 4, and Koenen 3.25.

I'm not sure if this was mentioned (probably was) but I just read on NFL.com that if for some reason Revis is traded or off the Bucs, the Jets would only get a 4th round pick from us in the upcoming draft instead of the 3rd. So if that's right, if we traded Revis, we'd have whatever picks we'd get from the trade, plus have our 3rd rounder still. That said, I really love having Revis on our team, and even though the picks would be very helpful, hopefully we can fill the roster holes with Free Agents and hit on the draft picks we do have.

He has to be traded by March 13th for that conditional pick to be a 4th though.  So it's gotta happen in the next couple weeks.  The reason is the conditional pick is tied to Revis being on the Buccaneers roster on that date.

Oh, gotcha. That makes more sense.

I don't think he is going anywhere. He needs to restructure though. And he should be all for that.

Bucs are at 17 or so million with no roll over and the cap is looking to go up 7-9 million. That's 24-26 million. Bucs have at the very least a few million in rollover that can and will likely be used. That's roughly 30 mil in cap space before a single cut, restructure, or trade. Please tell me again how revis needs to be cut to save $$$, do we really need 46 mil in cap space and a couple extra picks. Bucs would have to drop some coin just to reach the floor.Let's also include the fact that several of the big contracts signed recently were front loaded and will also drop in cap hit the next 2-3 years.Such a brilliant revelation I had to post it in multiple threads.

Hell no don't restructure. He's not crippling us financially, he's happy with it, he's in his prime, and IF anything ever happened thats 16 million in cap relief with one cut.Leave his contract the way it is and let him ball.

Agree.I think they restructure to lower the annual salary, and give him some guaranteed money. He should be in favor of that.

Zero guaranteed dollars.  Its not how much you make, its how much is guaranteed. Its a rough game.

Ok, so again anti, why would we (Bucs) want to restructure?  What are we hoping for, to get him down to 12-13 mil cap #?  So we would give up the freedom to part company with him at any time for an extra few million to play with?  At a time when we are going to have more then we will probably spend anyway?  Even if we could/wanted to spend more then we have, there are almost pain free cuts that could free up another 15-20.  Need money next season?  Goodbye Goldson, there's 10.  It makes no sense from our perspective to renegotiate him now.  Maybe next season I guess, maybe the season after.  If we do need/want to renegotiate, time is on our side.  Our leverage increases as time goes on.  The only reason I could see to renegotiate now would be in the interests of a particular trade partner.  If we had to absorb cap hit in order to make a deal work that we want.

Agree on the Goldson part. The Revis camp could push for a restructure, not necessarily the team.

If he starts the season playing for Tampa that's pretty much 16 mill guaranteed. Nobody is adding 16 million to their cap with a trade deadline deal and if they are.. We got them over the barrel if they want him that bad.No need to restructure.
