Not according to Over the Cap - costs us $4.6 million.
I mean, why this 4pm deadline? Pay him the $1.5 million roster bonus, deal with giving up a 3rd instead of a 4th, and still try to trade him.
I presume because they cant trade him. It would have to be a team that would accept that contract. There do not appear to be any such teams . . . . unless Dominik gets a new job today ;)If neither Cleveland nor Oakland wants him WITH THAT CONTRACT . . . who would? (besides Dom)
If the worst case scenario is keeping Revis and his $16M salary... is that bad? The jets get a 3rd instead of a 4th. The Bucs keep an elite player.
Then fewer upgrades elsewhere.
and its a one year rental of an "unhappy" Revis.
He gets his $16M... he's happy.

Is he "unhappy"? If they kept him, he gets $16M plus a real coach that understands D and what should be a significantly upgraded pass rush.Again, unless they have something really big planed for the O, I am not seeing the need to cut him?

not from what I have read. . . . but that still doesn't change the one year rental . . same position next year

So what? The team is better in 2014 with him than without him, unless there is an incredible upgrade at QB planned with the cap number that I am not seeing?

Or it's a trade closer to the in-season deadline where contending teams get more desperate

Actually, thats not a bad idea. In this case, the aquiring team is only responsible for the remainng salry right?

I don't know, but I think you are looking at 2014 like its all-in or nothing? I don't think Lovie and Licht look at it like that at all, so I don't think the one year rental is enticing to them at all, particularly not at the cost of $16 million and a 3rd (instead of a 4th) They would probably both rather have their team than a team with Revis, particularly a Revis who has been unwilling to renegotiate etc.
I mean, why this 4pm deadline? Pay him the $1.5 million roster bonus, deal with giving up a 3rd instead of a 4th, and still try to trade him.Without this deadline, we still would fetch likely AT LEAST a 3rd round pick for Revis, if not a 2nd, and quite possibly a 1st. The only thing holding teams back is this belief he's getting released anyways. Take that belief away and we're in a better bargaining position.Meanwhile - if somehow we did change our minds in the next 3 hours and decided to keep Revis for the long hall - then Id say those "fewer" upgrades youre talking about still equate to us currently having one of the best defenses, on paper, in the league. Two pro bowl corners. Two pro bowl caliber safeties. Two pro bowlers on the Dline and then lavonte at LB.
No way. We either keep him, trade him or cut him before 4pm. I wouldn't waste that 3rd rounder just because we think we can trade him later on.
OK - but by that reasoning then you're wasting a probable 2nd rounder at least. (an additional pick I might add) by not wanting to move from the 4th to 3rd round. So instead of having a 2nd and a 4th, you want to stick with the 3rd.And even if we didn't get a 2nd rounder for Revis, I would think there is enough of a bargaining position for a 3rd...so instead of a 3rd AND a 4th you want to cut him for nothing now to preserve just the 3rd. Right.
@TBBuccaneers: UPDATE - #Bucs press conference regarding free agency has been moved to 4:30pm EST. Watch on http://t.co/tUU9a5OZXL & the Bucs Mobile App.
Well we need to do something because we're .5 million under the cap. Not sure if we can exceed that temporarily or when that number gets locked in but we currently are broke with no money to sign anyone additional.

That means someone else is signing... Hopefully Collins or Tillman!

Yes, we can be over the cap until the end of camp. Otherwise NOLA would be fooked this morning. They were 2 mil under before signing Byrd...if what I read was correct.

Where are you getting the numbers? According to Breer we're not in this group meaning we have at least 8.3 mill.Albert Breer ?@AlbertBreer 27mLeast cap room in the NFL as of midnight: 1) New Orleans $2.4M, 2) Pittsburgh $6.1M, 3) Detroit $7.5M, 4) Carolina $8.0M, 5) Chicago $8.2M.
