1. What Ira Kauffman says is inconsequential. I’m sure postseason play may tip the bucket for a QB that’s on the edge, but that’s probably it. We agree Rice was great in the postseason, yet he’s not in the HOF. Seems pretty clear.
2. Rice would have loved to have “mediocre” seasons on the back end, but he wasn’t good enough to continue playing in the NFL. Taylor was, and he has a bust in Canton. Quite frankly, watching Rice bounce around in 2007, beg for a job in 2008, and play for the UFL in 2009 was embarrassing for him.
3. It’s good you’ve added the “one season” qualifier, but it’s still inaccurate. PFR’s AR ranking has Brooks at 23 and Rice/Sapp tied at 21. Rice didn’t have 20.5 sacks in 2002, he had 15.5. Nobody with a good argument has to fluff it with inflated playoff stats.
4. I’m certainly no fan of the media, but any unbiased observer would acknowledge Jason Taylor was a better overall football player than Simeon Rice. Their numbers verify that opinion, as does PFR’s career AR (Taylor - 157, Rice - 104) ranking. You clearly are biased for Rice, and that’s fine. But, again, your perception is not reality.

Even if you’re counting playoffs, he didn’t have 20.5 sacks.
He had 19.5 sacks.
But, let’s count the playoffs. Rice had an absolutely INSANE year. No doubt one for the books.
You know who else had one for the books? The rightful winner of the DPOY award.
A linebacker who had 7…count ‘em…7 interceptions. 4 of those he housed. And, of course, another tuddy on a fumble recovery.
In total, he had as many TD’s on defense as the WR1 had on offense.
Brooks was the best player on that team during their SB campaign. That’s not a slight to Rice. I think Simeon should be in Canton.
“don't know why the media does what they do. But the media is too stupid to have the amount of influence they do. ”
it’s actually the reverse. The media has a lot of influence because many people are stupid (or just too busy), meaning they’d rather let someone else think for them. They’d rather repeat something the read or heard as authoritative
people also respond more strongly to certain narratives so, for example, an underdog story. This is why so much mythology develops around star athletes, this is why public figures are able to craft images.
Human nature. Most football fans are not willing to spend the time analyzing Taylor versus Rice so they just accept what they read or here.
Rice is not a HOF player. Huge fan, but not going to happen. Small market, quirky guy etc
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to Ronde!!!!
By the way, @pennywise
Didn’t catch the MVP award. You said it was someone who played for your shithole city in Philly, right?

Seriously, I missed the MVP award.
Hurts won it, right…like you claimed he would?
So good to see Ronde finally get in. The man that closed down that shithole stadium in Philly.
It’s all good, @pennywise
I still love ya, you zero football acumen, dumb bastard.
Good luck Sunday with your team! I’m rooting for ya’!
It would be a joke if he doesn't get in. No other corner has his resume. Dude defined the position for years. It's the very definition of a Hall of Famer. I'm surprised he's not in yet, but it does often come down to slots available. Reavis is a first-year ballot, so I doubt they put him in over Barber. Lewis? Meh. Had a lot of picks over 16 years but didn't define the position the way Barber did. I guess we'll see.
I agree with you, just not sure the voters do
lolz
I'm happy for Ronde. There were quite a few guys on here arguing against him being a HOF'er. Glad he was rightly voted in.
Congrats Ronde! You were well overdue.
So happy for Ronde! Well deserved, long overdue.
Ronde Bear, well deserved!
Fuck yeah. Ronde in!
I hope Rice gets in... followed by Evans and David.
Congrats my favorite buc of all time. I was at fsu during the glory years late 80s early 90s and fsu played uva and fsu lost their first acc game ever in like 8 yrs on a thursday nite..broke our hearts ..warrick dunn tackled inches from the goal line. There were some guys named the barber brothers on that team. Any way the bucs draft this kid ronde barber in the 3rd round. and I am like well i Know he is smart and competitive but he might have peaked in college. The Combine had him 5 10" 185lbs 4.66 40 yrd dash. And i am like yeah maybe a roster player special teams guy on nfl but never a starter. Then preseason began and I watched this ronde like 10 yds off every receiver , they were catching passes left and right on ronde and I am like oh boy this guy just doesnt have the physical traits to play at nfl level. Boy was i wrong! Anyway he has become my favorite even over fsu guys etc. Ronde and tom brady are those guys that they said you are good but probably not good enuff. Both guys exemplify determination, competitiveness, smarts and look for every edge at their disposal to succeed. If I had a son I would show them these two guys and how they go about things.
