In today's NFL, all teams use multiple backs throughout the season. Hell, look at Derrick Henry with Baltimore.
In 2023, Henry had a whopping 280 carries . . . White had 272.
Oh wait . . yesterday's NFL? Modern football?
where there is "no correlation" between running and passing ? :-)

well Canales started every drive with 2 runs. Setting up that nice 3rd and 7!
Got to admit, Liam Coen is getting himself a head coaching job. 4 out of 6 games with 30+ points.
He seems like he can adjust to.
I think Baker finding his own certainly helping him as well. Baker leads the league in passing touchdowns by 3.
A lot of overreactions after yesterday. We've seen tucker run like he's stuck in the mud. Lets not crown the guy just yet.
Bucky should be starter, averaging 5.7 yards a carry
White should be third down/pass catching option. Dude had 44 more yards than Tucker on 35 more carries
I agree that Tucker shouldn't be named early down back off of one game but the dude has earned more carries and when we foolishly stick with White and we aren't having any success, we should be quicker to try Tucker for a series
White isn't very good. I know we spend a third round pick on him but the guy averaged 3.7 yards a carry in his career thus far. We are seeing Bucky have way more success. Obviously hard to assess Tucker but White/Bucky have played against the same defenses and it's night and day
Tucker has made runs like this in the pre-season but we all just took as "it's just pre-season". He has size (he has a thick lower half), vision, ability to cut without losing speed and he gets to top speed pretty quickly. I like him between the tackles on early downs and 3rd and short. He looked like Emmitt Smith yesterday. Is he Emmitt Smith? No. But that's how he played yesterday. And it's not like he had 4 touches for 40 yards. He had 17 touches for 192 and a 2 TDs. This might be lightning in a bottle. Ride it.

Because he was a Waldron disciple!
(I kid, I kid)
Canales was always more a HC than some bright OC, a point that really comes home when you look at Coen NOW and also recall that in addition to his running. game woes Canales started Godwin outside
Back inside this season Godwin leads the team's WRs in targets and receptions and he has to be near the top of the league (with Evans?) in TDs?
Bucky should be starter, averaging 5.7 yards a carry
Tucker should be starter, averaging 8.9 yards per carry. And a higher run success rate. And better receiving numbers (rate).
per pewter report article, it' s not out of the question
I mean, why not?
IMO, he’s the best pure runner of the three. His pass pro looked to be better than Bucky’s yesterday (who had at least 2 awful reps, both bailed out by Baker). And, he was elite as a receiver out of the backfield.
Good problems to have.
And, kudos to Coen, who’s run calling has gotten SOOOOO much better. Actually favoring the left edge and left interior sides of the line. Rachaad seeing this on the sideline is like “You motherf*cker”. Lol.

Irving and Tucker took all those non-gadget right side runs yesterday . .averaged 9.7 and 5.8
I think it was more of the saints run D than our run game, but we'll see. Those DBs on the saints could not tackle 1on1

Coming into the game, they had the #8 ranked rushing defense and the #8 scoring defense.
I am a fan of White but is it possible he slides down the chart?
"Bowles acknowledged the Bucs now have “a three-headed monster” at running back"
Biggs, "your" not going to like this . . .. from SR . . who CLEARLY does not know "how averages work:"
The real test of a running back’s consistency comes when you take out the top two longest runs of the season, as they can really skew an average. Irving’s top two runs are a 32-yarder against the Broncos and a 31-yarder, which he’s had against both the Commanders and the Saints. So if you take away 63 yards from his total, Irving still rushes for 4.7 yards per carry, which is quite good.
Take away Tucker’s 36-yard jaunt and an 18-yard dash at New Orleans and he’s left with 89 yards this season on 14 carries. Tucker still averages 6.3 yards per carry – even better.
White had a 56-yard run at Atlanta and a 17-yarder versus Philadelphia. Remove 73 yards from his total of 187 yards rushing and he’s left with 114 yards on 49 carries. That’s a 2.3-yard average and that tells you all you need to know.
It’s not like White doesn’t have a place in this offense and shouldn’t have a role. It just shouldn’t be as the starting running back of this team. He’s very effective in pass protection and he’s one of the better receivers in the league. But in Tampa Bay he’s not the best runner taking hand-offs. That’s Irving – and it might even be Tucker once we see a larger sample size from No. 44."
"“It’s definitely worthy of him making it a three-headed monster,” Bowles said in his Monday press conference. “He took advantage of his opportunities. He ran away from some tackles, some linebackers. He ran through the hole, he cut back, he made some great plays, he caught the ball well out of the backfield. So that gives us a three-headed monster.”
COACH
SPEAK
“Baker Mayfield’s been very good all year, but I’ll tell you who’s giving them a lift: Bucky Irving,” Dungy said. “He’s making some plays in the passing game. He’s making great runs. He’s just energizing them.”

It was also a change is the rushing philosophy and play calling.
Coen has done a nice job evolving and adjusting.
They went way heavier in running towards the left side (stronger side) of the line. 17 of their 28 carries went that way. 154 of their 217 yards came from the left side (9.06ypc vs. 5.73).
They've also gone to more heavy usage on gap and duo and less zone over the last 3 weeks. Which, is no wonder you've seen even White's success rate go up (despite his right side run distribution vs. Bucky's).
Lastly, Coen has been throwing way more on 1st down the last few weeks vs. the first half of the season. Extremely pass heavy in neutral situations. Nowhere near as predictable.
Great stuff by Liam!
