"Homophobic" is a made-up word that was popularized specifically to brand any concerns with homosexuality and it's integration into our society as irrational and based off of fear and delegitimize any conversation about issues which are clearly legitimate. Like showering. And adoption. And whether marriage is "tolerance" or "approval", which are two different concepts. All of these things are, in fact, things we can and should have a real conversation, but we won't because of the politics. Just like we can't really talk about race because once one "side" hears something they don't like, they end the conversation by screaming "Racism!" The example being used, If we had a workplace where, as a basic part of the work environment, women had to shower with men, we all know the full force of the sexual harassment and grievance industry and the government and the EEOC would be all over it with hour long specials on MSNBC about men trying to control women's bodies. In the rush for people to defend one groups rights though, they forget that other groups (in this case heterosexual males) have rights too. And people here who earlier in the thread said it was just something "uncomfortable" are completely oblivious to the fact that anything a male does -- or merely appears to do -- of a sexual or sexist manner, that makes a female uncomfortable, is, by law, harassment. Homosexuality is here to stay. There are rights that they still need protected and advocated for. And they still need protection from harassment because it does exist. But that also does not mean delegitimizing and belittling the legitimate concerns of others and ignoring their rights either. There is a big difference between not wanting to shower with someone, and thinking they should be stoned to death. Lumping the two together is the sign of a weak mind.

Sam is out as gay. This is KNOWN. That changes the entire argument. And just how many gay men are in the NFL in your estimation? Where does this idea come from that gay men make up a significant percentage of NFL players? How is this supported it any way? People on your side of the debate keep playing this card without any proof to back it up. I think it's a very obvious example of wishful thinking.

I've been in theater since I was 5 and have been in many situations where women were dressing, undressing, etc. around me. I've even worked as a stagehand who had to help women dress and undress offstage. I've acted in roles where I had to make out with girls while their boyfriends/husbands were in the audience. I've been the actor who was dressed/undressed by others, including gay guys and lesbians and straight people, young and old.It's a job, it's work. You don't have the time to ogle or cop feels because you're working and want to do a good job. Someone who uses the opportunity to satisfy some sort of sexual fetish would be gone in an instant. I'm guessing that showering in an NFL locker room is a similar situation. You're there to get sweat, dirt and grime off of yourself after a difficult game, win or lose. Sex is probably not even on your mind.

The claim was that gay guys hitting on straight guys isn't an issue. Would you not agree that repeatedly showering with gay men might increase the probability of that? Can even just a little bit of logic be allowed in this debate? Do we have to have an outright ban?
