Can someone please explain the salary cap situation here regarding Brady and how it relates to the scenarios:
A) retires
B) plays in Tampa
C) plays somewhere else
I’m not sure but likely some wiggle room on A and B to maneuver the cap
If he plays for another team, I think it’s $35 million against the cap!

A. $35M dead cap hit
B. Can push the money into future years.
C. $35M dead cap hit
well shit, heres hopin he retires or plays here
A. 35 million hit but can push a large portion to 2024
B. Can push into future years
C. Worse case scenario 35 million cap hit but unlike A and B 2024 has zero cap hit
Per auman
The other thing to remember is that the Bucs have two different financial realities if Brady isn’t back. If he signs elsewhere, he counts $35 million against the 2023 cap; if he retires, he can count $11 million in 2023 and $24 million in 2024. Latter allows for more spending.

The best case scenario if Brady leaves is for Trask to be able to start. That may be wishful thinking, but it doesn't do any good to push a lot of money off to 2024 and beyond when they have to get the real stars of this team signed: Wirfs and Winfield. It's not optional to sign those guys. This is why they drafted Trask at the end of the 2nd round and spent two years developing him, put him on the inactive list for two years. He's been doing nothing but taking up space for two years working diligently so they say. Now he has two years left on his rookie deal before you have to pay him or cut him loose.
This is why they drafted Trask. The Bucs need him to step up. Obviously, that doesn't mean it's going to happen. But I predict that after the dust settles from the offseason (if Brady moves on), Kyle Trask will be the #1 QB at the start of training camp.
The selfish reason I want Brady back is to keep Bucs relevant
we won’t see the playoffs for the rest of the 2020s otherwise. Reference 2009 to 2019 and reference not having Arians or Gruden or Dungy at the helm and you essentially have a bottom feeder franchise
And the bad news is we are starting off the rebuild wasting a year with Bowles. As far as Trask goes, the paucity of reps he’s been getting is ( I’m afraid) an indicator of the team’s confidence in him. Granted, you can’t always find reps for a third stringer. Most teams will remedy this by having that guy run the scout team. Trask has not been doing that.

If he signs elsewhere we get a comp pick.
I'll take that with the cap hit over deferring his contract, easy
The writing is on the wall
we we’re so brutally bad this year just don’t see Brady coming back

I just think it means they didn't prioritize getting him experience over Brady wanting to stay in the game all the time. The Bucs were always in a race for the division and were rarely in blowout games. Gabbert had 8 passing attempts for the season, Trask had 9. I don't think it's an indicator of Trask's standing with the team. They were just focused on 2022 and not 2023.
All good points but this doesn’t explain why Trask didn’t run the scout team. They kept Griffin to do that. They aren’t that different athletically.

It’s because trask sucks
i mean for him not be #2 after 2 years or running scout team. He just isn’t capable
it isn’t his fault. It’s management for wasting the pick
The scout team thing is most troubling. If an organization likes a young qb, they find him reps. Griffin and Trask are similar athletically, so it’s not like that’s a reason. The Bucs are acting like Trask isn’t a future option.
