Not really surprising, right?
The scout team thing is most troubling. If an organization likes a young qb, they find him reps. Griffin and Trask are similar athletically, so it’s not like that’s a reason. The Bucs are acting like Trask isn’t a future option.
Like what kind of "reps" are you talking about? Game reps in the regular season? The kind where you tell Brady you're taking him out of the game? How does that work exactly? Look, this wasn't a rebuilding year. They were trying to win the Superbowl. They had Brady. They had the experienced backup Gabbert in case Brady got hurt. They had no thoughts about developing anybody for 2023 or beyond. Whether you think that's right or wrong, that has little to do with whether they like Kyle Trask. It will be a different story this year, assuming Brady has moved on. Trask will be given every opportunity to step into the starting role, because they need him to salary cap wise. Will he meet the challenge? I don't know. I have no opinion one way or the other on that. But I'm just telling you my opinion that I don't think the Bucs have written him off and he'll get every opportunity to win the job this offseason and preseason.
I meant practice reps. It’s very hard to get a young qb reps during the season. Practice squad is a way around this.
Well, I assume Trask gets reps in practice. Again, he's 3rd string. It's my contention that it's just the team priority to have an experienced backup, not an indictment on Trask. But I don't really know and neither does anybody else outside of OneBuc. If PR knows anything, they haven't come out and said to my knowledge. It's academic if Brady comes back. I suppose they would keep the same arrangement. But if Brady doesn't return this issue will certainly come to the forefront as free agency plays out.
