I don't know. I couldn't see the whole field from the camera angle shown. All I know is constantly moving backwards when you scramble is not a good thing. If he moved towards the LoS instead, maybe a defender drops out of coverage to stop him and somebody comes open. Or maybe he can actually gain a few yards by running. Instead, he moves at a backward angle which makes him throw off his back field and helps the DE beat the OLmen.
