Licht has been criticized for perhaps overemphasizing character and passing up some talented players because they aren't Boy Scouts such as this guy:

Falcons rookie first-round pick James Pearce Jr. was arrested Saturday in Florida on domestic violence charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated stalking, per court records.

Well....

"The Atlanta Falcons traded up in the 2025 NFL Draft with the Los Angeles Rams, giving up their second-round pick, a 2026 first-round pick, and a 2025 seventh-round pick to acquire the No. 26 overall selection used to draft Tennessee edge rusher James Pearce Jr."

Lots of draft capital in limbo.

drafting higher character guys should play a part for sure but AB and Fournette were not considered the best and they were key contributors in our superbowl run; now the AB piece pit them in the ass the following season for sure

ideally would be getting guys that are both good and higher chracter....if it's a coin flip; def going with the one that doesnt beat his wife regularly

Look man, the Falcons effectively backed out of truly competing when they drafted Penix.  His injuries and his inability to handle a sloppy pocket, were evident when he was at Indiana and at Washington.  Never fall in love with an arm.  Fall in love with their brain.  They are now going to cut ties with Cousins and bring in a vet to compete with Penix.  And come April they have to sit out the first round because they thought it was a good idea to overlook character when drafting a player. Pierce is very good but, he’s going to the clink for what he did.  Tough times in Atlanta.

Licht will resign him if he can be re-signed.  He is the franchise.

Lmfao this is the NFL. He will missed 2-4 games.

Based on initial reports it should be longer but we've seen far worse offenses get light sentencing.

See Rashee Rice

Not true.  He may never play for the Falcons again.  This is going to get ugly.

I think the point is you just don't put your eggs all in one basket because football is a team game.  Character matters because the Seahawks could have taken Jalen Carter but they passed on him due to his troubles for Witherspoon but followed up with Byron Murph the following year.  Is Jalen Carter that much better than Byron Murphy?  Sure long term maybe, but is it that big of a difference?  Not really and the Hawks have JSN too with Spoon from that draft to go with Murphy.

And maybe Carter is doing better for going to the Eagles and maybe would have had issues going to another team.

Some players with character issues do fine in certain team environments and in others they implode.

I don't think so but if the charges are worse than expected I guess it's possible he gets suspended for the year

he has several police-related charges he's probably not going to escape. One is aggravated battery on a police officer. He apparently hit a police officer with his car trying to escape. I think that's a 5 year minimum sentence if convicted

that's just the early reporting though and sometimes the early reporting in wrong

If there is concrete evidence that he hit a cop with a car to escape then yes... The initial report I read didn't mention that. Either way, I expect whatever punishment he gets to be as little as possible give the crime.

The NFL is a joke with punishments

Pearce is in trouble this time around. He escaped several incidents while he was here in Knoxville playing for Tennessee including speeding, driving on a suspended license, failure to present insurance, registration not properly displayed and improper window tinting. He has a documented history of not complying to police instructions (two times off the books here in Knoxville). I think this gets him. The Falcons were foolish to dismiss his character issues. World of talent with world of trouble that follows him.
