Aaron Colvin tore his ACL today. Really sucks for him. My third favorite CB in this draft and the consensus best CB at the senior bowl over the first two days. Could now be a steal late in the draft. He won't be playing in 2014, but you gotta think long term.
That sucks. I would take him with a 6 or 7th round pick.
Absolutely. Was a sure fire 2nd round pick before today. Would be like getting an extra top 50 pick in 2015 when he comes back healthy.

Yeah I'd take that flier on him.
The 49ers used a 4th rounder on Marcus Lattimore. They are going to be unstoppable with him in the backfield and that OL up front.

Lattimore comes across as a very grounded/nice young man......watched him throughout his college career. Based on the multiple injures he had in college, my fear is he will continue to have injury issues and may never live up to the potential he showed at SC.
That's a good point. I think he went to the right place. SF aren't going to try to run him 30 times a game. He will probably get 5-10 carries a game. Kind of like what Kendall Hunter does for them right now. SF is smart.

You are right...SF is smart. Although Gore is not showing any sign of slowing down, he is getting up there in age....for a RB. It can't be too long before they will need to think about replacing him and IF ML could overcome the inury bug he would be a great replacement. But as you said, using LM in the "limited" carries role is going to serve them well.
49ers also took an injured Tank Carradine last year. He'll be like an extra 1st round pick for them this year. His presence should be felt in 2014.
SF also didn't have a lot if holes to fill either. The strong get stronger.

The thing is those third day picks are such a crap shoot of ever helping that getting a high value player is worth it. I mean Colvin and Mettenberger are both likely R2 prospects who both blew their knees out. Would you feel at all bad taking either one in r6 or r7 instead of the generic oops of by the way TE or too slow safety teams take in those rounds?
I agree Dal. I think the late rounds should be reserved for high risk/high reward guys. It's the perfect time to grab guys with elite potential that fell due to injury or character issues. If we followed this philosophy over recent years we would have drafted guys like Greg Hardy and Vontaze Burfict instead of turds like Daniel Hardy and Brent Bowden.
Yeah no kidding. Tired of drafting guys with zero upside in the late rounds. How did they pass on Greg Hardy or Vontaze Burfict? Both were once considered 1st round picks. I remember the board clamoring for those picks in the late rounds, so not like this is a 'hindsight is 20/20 thing.'

Fans always seem to want to go boom or bust in late rounds. The "real" GMs seem to take guys who are about 7th round players. It is like they are drafting to get backups and special teamers. The thing is they seem remarkably bad at even doing that.
You can get depth and special team players as UDFA. If you don't feel a guy at least has the potential to be a starter....then in my opinion you shouldn't be using a pick on him.
