After 9 seasons.
helluva career especially for a UDFA.
was huge for us during our Super Bowl year.
enjoy retirement mah dude!
19.5 sacks in 2019 is the most in Bucs history. Three more than Sapp and four more than Rice ever got in a season. For his career, he is 4th for Bucs all time behind Sapp, Rice and McCoy and most of them came in a three season stretch.
I’m not sure 19.5 will ever be broken.
the record is what strahan with 22 iirc?
and Favre gave him the last one.
Going to miss seeing him play on the field. I am glad we got him and hope the ones coming after him continue the work ethic and perseverance. Thanks to you SB for being a Buccaneer!
Definitely a all-time favorite buc of mine. Loved watching him play. Huge for our pass rush in the super bowl. Enjoy retirement!
One of the Bucs most effective FA moves?
it's up there
our best free agent move of all time will have to go to Tom Brady - brought us a Lombardi and made us media darlings. nothing will top that the rest of our life times most likely
Other key free agent moves since 2000 would include: Brad Johnson, Simeon Rice, Shaq Barrett, Vincent Jackson, Ryan Jensen, Ndamukong Suh
key trades would include: Jason Pierre Paul, Rob Gronkowski, Keyshawn Johnson
Those are all great moves.
Barrett stood out to me as a potential best FA move because we took him mostly on potential and then he delivered in such a big way.
Great for the Bucs and for Barrett.

Disagree on Keyshawn. Bucs won the Super Bowl despite of him. After his blow up with Gruden the offense was bogged down trying to force him the ball.

The offense was never good under Gruden.
The offense was never good under Gruden.
But you would agree the offense under Gruden was better than when it was under Dungy, right?

Were they though?
Dungy's last 2 seasons:
2000 - Offense Points Per Game Ranking - 6th in the league
2001 - Offense Points Per Game Ranking - 15th in the league
Gruden:
2002 - Offense Points Per Game Ranking - 18th in the league
2003 - Offense Points Per Game Ranking - 18th in the league
2004 - Offense Points Per Game Ranking - 23rd in the league
2005 - Offense Points Per Game Ranking - 20th in the league
2006 - Offense Points Per Game Ranking - 31st in the league
2007 - Offense Points Per Game Ranking - 18th in the league
Dungy's best offense, in 2000, was ranked 6th in the league at 24.3 points per game. Gruden never had an offense that highly ranked, or who averaged more points.
Keep in mind, he was a supposed "offensive guru".
Dude cost us MULTIPLE super bowls.
that is an opinion.
If you did not like Dave Canales offense, you would not have liked Tony’s offense. Although a much better talent, and therefore a more effective running attack, it had zero pre-snap movement and existed to not put the defense in a bad position.
Also, Tony’s offense had trouble scoring points in playoff games - it’s kinda why the owners fired him and traded for Gruden.
One could argue, that the season after the Bucs WON our first Super Bowl, our vaunted Tampa-Two defense got figured out by Peyton Manning - who dissected it in a game noted for an epic defensive collapse. The exodus of defensive players and an inability to find suitable replacements (in a copycat league), contributed more to the inability to get back to the Super Bowl.
Purely a recollection though.

Oh really?
You mean the same defense that was ranked 5th in the league in yards given up and 4th in points allowed (while naturally ranking in the Top-10 in takeaways) at the end of said season?
The one that was also ranked in the Top-10 in fewest points allowed 5 of the following 6 seasons after the SB win?
Not bad for a defense that was "figured out".

So, you're blaming the defense.
Interesting take.
2003 Rankings (Points Per Game / Points Allowed)
Offense - 18th
Defense - 4th
2004 Rankings (Points Per Game / Points Allowed)
Offense - 23rd
Defense - 9th
2005 Rankings (Points Per Game / Points Allowed)
Offense - 20th
Defense - 8th
2006 Rankings (Points Per Game / Points Allowed)
Offense - 31st
Defense - 21st
2007 Rankings (Points Per Game / Points Allowed)
Offense - 18th
Defense - 3rd
2008 Rankings (Points Per Game / Points Allowed)
Offense - 19th
Defense - 10th
Can you do me a favor, bud?
I see a lot of Top-10 (and Top-5) defensive rankings here.
Care to tell me how many of those offenses were ranked in the Top-5? Top-10? Hell, were there any ranked in the top half of the league?
Yup, defense clearly contributed more to our inability to get back to the SB.
Lolz...
are you looking up stats, or were you watching the seasons after the Super Bowl?
