and to get controversial,

It's definitely a controversial post.

only because some fans dont want to admit the truth.  Never understood those that wouldnt want to do everything in their power to retain Mike Evans

and as it comes to Baker, no body ever offers up a legit alternative.  The only ones i would consider would be Kirk Cousins and Russell Wilson and they may not even be available nor guaranteed to be as successful as Baker was in 2023. Any other free agency QB mentioned would be inferior.  As it comes to the draft, very likely that the top 4 would be picked prior to our selection so do we want to take a swing at the 5th best guy and then waste another 3-5 years on that investment.

Nobody offers any legit alternatives because the Bucs are tight against the cap. So we all know and accepted that he is coming back after having a successful season. That and we really don't have a much of a choice and the options on the market aren't that much better. Cousins upside isn't that much of an upgrade to Baker to the point its worth losing Winfield, Wirfs, Evans etc...The only controversy was how good he is compared to his peers, which only like 3 people overrated him as a QB. Just like week we had some bozo say Mayfield was better than Tua, Lamar Jackson, etc..Of course that's going cause uproar.

Neither is Baker guaranteed to be as successful as Baker was in 2023.

They act as if 2023 was the norm.

Which, clearly, it isn’t.

Which is the same assumption that every team/fanbase makes.

But it’s only because he had one of his best years as a pro with us.

You know who else that was true for? Tom Brady.

yes Tom walked on water in 2007 but his first season in Tampa was arguably his best in a decade statistically speaking.

now Baker doesn’t have the weapons that Tom had with Gronk and AB, but still Evans and Godwin can help support any QB to make them serviceable. I mean shit, look at Jameis

the Bucs are hoping Baker can build off 2023 and rightly so as that’s the most realistic and best option for them as many of you quietly admit

And, again, you and your ilk act as if it’s the norm.

And, again, it’s not.

the norm would be that his play falls back some because there’s tons of film on him. That’s why you hope for better running game, TE play, 3rd receiver and defense

If Mayfield plays the same or better the Bucs will be very competitive. He sort of had two seasons last season (beginning and end/playoffs) so even playing somewhere in the middle ALL SEASON and the Bucs should be competitive

also because it's who he's been the majority of his career.

Clearly, he'll be back on a long-term deal. So, here's hoping that he builds off last year's campaign.

i cant speak for others but i realize that Baker had one of his best years of his career with us and realize he was inconsistent prior to Tampa

but im rooting for Baker because he's the starting QB for the Bucs and we had one of our most successful years (last 20 years - 2020 & 2002, 2021, then 2023) with him so its easy to do so.

i also rooting for Jameis as he was a likeable guy but now that we've had a taste of success with Brady, the bar has been raised.  For some of you, the bar has been raised to not attainable - Brady or bust essentially.

My view on Baker was that he was a bust in Cleveland.  He had 2 decent years and 2 sub par years, one good playoff run.  But even though labeled a bust, i always viewed him as having the "IT" factor to turn it around. I don't put him on the same category as a Zach Wilson, Sam Darnold, Jamarcus Russell, Manziel, etc.

Goff busted out with the Rams, Winston with the Bucs and i put Mayfield more in that category.  Goff was able to revive his career and Winston unfortunately has not been able to with the Saints.

When assessing 2022 Baker, a year in which he was done dirty by the Browns by trading him in July to Carolina; Baker haters easily say the notion - 4 teams in 1 year to describe him as if he got a fair shake in Carolina or Los Angeles.  Given how Baker performed with Tampa, it's easy to rationally throw that season out, no?

There's no guarantee that Baker builds off 2023 season.  But i think the Bucs have no choice but to take a chance on it.

Goff busted out with the Rams

Busted?

With the Rams, he went to multiple pro-bowls, multiple 4,500 yards passing seasons, went 42-27 as a starter, and lead his team to a Super Bowl appearance.

If that's busted, I can't help but laugh when you say you put Baker in that same category (when he hasn't even sniffed that type of success).

agree with this on Mayfield. Would only add that it’s possible we have much different Mayfield than the Cleveland Mayfield. Canales alluded to that several times while he was here.

Yep. It was the best year of his career. And, that has been acknowledged across the board here.

But, the Baker Bois have taken it to the extreme as if this is the norm for Baker.

"He's just as good as Dak"

"He's far superior to Cousins"

(actual quotes on these boards)

I mean, this is just stupidity.
