Bucs pr podcast Carolina preview touched on this today.
dolphins have his rights but may ultimately release him
if so we would have to claim him(and pay him his current contract) unless he claims waivers
could we use him? Yep.
is he in football shape? Tbd.
interesting situation. Also an interesting time to unretire so late in the season.
clears waivers sorry
either Bucs or maybe a top competitor like Detroit, Philadelphia, Chiefs, Baltimore, or Buffalo i could see
Not sure anything comes from this.
Not sure anything comes from this.
i mean, i would think some "inside talks" have had to occur for him to file the paperwork
He's said he only wants to play for Tampa Bay, but that may change if there is more money involved elsewhere. This is his last chance to make some money. But who really wants him at this point? Even the Bucs may not want him. He'd have to be on the practice squad to get into playing shape.

Maybe
Last season he had less sacks than JTS?
He's a year older.
I mean, he does know the defense and maybe he can turn it back on. I guess we will see.
If he wanted to sign for the minimum and play almost no snaps and mentor? I guess maybe...
But likely we'd need that roster spot for special teams which he won't play
He has a contract that Miami has already had to eat a portion of when he retired. He ain’t signing for league minimum. He’d have to be traded or waived to sign with the Bucs…and believe if he’s traded, the balance of his contract would be on the Bucs, right?
The Dolphins are playing the role of the Grinch this Thanksgiving.
According to the Miami Herald ...
Per NFL rules regarding the matter, Miami faced a 4 p.m. Thursday deadline to remove Barrett, 32, from the reserve/retired list and move him to the active roster. Despite Bowser’s injury, Miami decided not to activate Barrett, who hasn’t participated in an NFL practice since June. According to a league source, the Dolphins also will not release Barrett to allow him to sign with another team this season. So even though Barrett is applying to the NFL for reinstatement from retirement (a procedural move), he will essentially remain retired, unable to collect a salary or play for another team.
The Dolphins entered Thursday with just $3.7 million in cap space, and activating Barrett would have significantly eaten into that money. In March, Barrett signed a one-year, $7 million contract that could be worth as much as $9 million with incentives. The deal included a $5.5 million signing bonus. If Miami had brought him back, he would have been due a prorated portion of that salary.
So even though the Dolphins are thin at DE and have an easier schedule than the Bucs believe it or not they decided against taking up Barrett on his offer, so he'll stay retired like it or not.
LOL who is Shaq's agent? you would think these discussions with the Dolphins would have happened already
EDIT: Like when Gronk un-retired, he knew he wasn't returning to Patriots.
Well he signed the deal in March and retired three months later. There was a $5.5 mil signing bonus which Shaq apparently collected. The Dolphins will be able to recoup that but not if he unretires. So this is about Shaq wanting to keep his money more than it is about him wanting to play again. And most of the cap hit was pushed into next year, so the Dolphins would get to free up about $4 mil from next year's cap if they don't have to pay Shaq.LOL who is Shaq's agent? you would think these discussions with the Dolphins would have happened already

Shaq, you took a signing bonus and then decided to retire. Why didn't you give that money back? That's stealing. Is this an agent thing?
Well if the Dolphins successfully recoup their money, that means the agent is getting paid out of Barrett's pocket. I can see why he's so anxious to unretire. Is this an agent thing?
agent was already paid
the agent is getting paid out of Barrett's pocket
the agent is always getting paid out of the player's pocket, but get your point that whatever Shaq netted with his retirement it was after the agent's cut so even less than it appears.
