Devils advocate says: what about those years where there's a division thats so tough that 3 or 4 of the teams are just trading blows all year, leaving a 9-7 survivor team in the playoffs. And what if in that same year there is another division that had two teams duking it out while the other two teams were so bad they helped inflate the records of the other two (does this sound familiar to anyone?). Lets say both end up 11-5, tie breaking one into the wild card. In that case the wild card team's record is only inflated due to those 4 easy division games they got to play (say, 2 each against falcons and bucs). So in that case, would those in favor of reseeding still feel the same way? Just trying not to be a prisoner of the moment.

Yes. Looking at the Saints and Eagles, both were 6-4 out of their division. But the Saints had a team in their division that was 12-4 and 7-3 outside of division. Philly only had to contend with the 8-8 Cowboys who were 3-7 out of the NFC East.
Should a 12-4 Playoff Team Have To Travel to a 8-7 Playoff Teams FrozenTundra ?
Yup!!Wanna host a playoff game, win your damn division, PERIOD!!
Why? Is it that much more impressive that GB back doored into a division that no one wanted that being second in the NFCW where every team would have run away with that NFCN? How about if you want a home playoff game win more games?
This and especially when you are in the crappy NFC North or East
Divisions just haven't seemed to matter as much since the last realignment. If they aren't adding a significant number of new teams, I'd rather them go back to fewer, bigger divisions and figure out a way to make the schedule work.
I can see both sides of the discussion. The Niners are getting hosed, but if they reseeded all teams by record, who would give a rats azz about winning their division? I think it would cause a lot of teams to mail it in the last 2-3 games of the season. And that is never a good idea.

Considering the team winning the division would have a higher seeding, I'd assume every team would.
I'm amazed that posters i've always considered intelligent have bought into this nonsense. The NFL has been tampered with enough....leave it the fukk alone.

NFL owners have taken notice of the inequity.Among the "multiple ways" in which the NFL has examined potential adjustments to the playoff system, spokesman Brian McCarthy said Thursday there has been discussion of letting the team with the superior record host games even if they gain entrance to the postseason as a wild card.^^^^^Its not just fans blowing smoke though.

I'm aware.....and we as fans have grown accustomed to the powers that be screwing up the league that we love. I'm for leaving well enough alone.Next, they'll wanna replace a crap AFC wildcard team with a better NFC team. Stop the madness!!!

Good point.

Agreed...

I totally agree with your take here. Especially with the rotating division scheduling, there are scenarios where that wild card team faced two patsies in their division for four gimme wins and two weak divisions while the division winner with fewer wins slugged it out in a tougher division field and two tougher divisions being rotated into their schedule. No system is completely fair, or perfect, and the current one has served us just fine. Plenty of wild cards have advanced to the big game recently, so I don't see an undue burden being placed on anyone.
Yes, otherwise you just remove the divisions and have conferences. Then people will complain about a 10-6 team getting passed on the playoffs in the AFC and an a 9-7 team making it in the NFC. Then you'd have to remove the conferences. If a team wants to get into the playoffs AND host a playoff game, WIN YOUR DIVISION. Keep it that way.
Why? Some divisions are harder than others. What if a division had four 13-3 teams?
Nice hate
This shlt reminds me of lil league where they don't keep score for fear of hurting lil Johnny's feelings. Life isn't always fair and we don't always get what we want...hell, i should be GM of the Bucs. Fact is... i'm not. Deal with life as it comes and move on.
