Without a doubt the roster needs blowing up big time. It's going to take at least a couple of offseasons to clear up the messes Dom left.

Wrong. It can be fixed in one offseason and without blowing up the entire roster .

Wrong, a bandaid can be put on the roster but it won't be truly fixed for years thanks to the dumb contracts and the quantity of solid depth needed to go along with major improvements at position of importance. For starters Nicks, that mess is very hard to clear up thanks to him costing $4mill more being off the roster than on it, if we keep him that's near $10 mill at a position of little value being paid to an injured guy that will likely never get back to 100%. What a great situation. Throw in how bad Joseph is and we likely need 2 new starting guards while still paying Nicks an idiotic amount.Tell me, how do you fix that in 1 year? Let's just tie up $20 mill in 3 guards for 2014 while paying Revis his money, still having to pay GMac, Jackson his money. The cap isn't some limitless pot of cash and the way some things are set up isn't great for sorting them out in 2014.

Without a doubt the roster needs blowing up big time. There is next to no quality depth so most of the guys who were depth guys the last few years need to be shown the door & replaced. Then when it comes to the starters we are talent starved at position of great value like QB and DE while idiotically wasting resources overpaying for names, a lot of the time at positions that really aren't important.Problem comes from the idiotic contracts Dom drew up for guy like Nicks where he actually costs almost $4 mill more to release this off season ($13.071 mill) than he would to keep on the roster ($9.357 mill), too many people forget the restructure bonus in 2012 is pro rated and would accelerate while $6 million of his 2014 salary is guaranteed against injury. It's going to take at least a couple of offseasons to clear up the messes Dom left. When a team has no QB or pass rush to go along with next to no depth nobody should be thinking a massive roster turnover isn't needed. This is the most poorly constructed team in the league.

Im not quite sure what kind of team you are looking for.We are not going to have an explosive offense where the QB passes 40 touchdowns. That's not the way Lovie does football. And what kind of depth are you looking for? Most teams in the league do not even have 22 solid starters. Most teams have holes. And with the salary cap, you can't afford 22 solid starters PLUS 22 solid backups. If you have a back-up on your team that can be a starter in this league, he's going to be too expensive to keep because some team out there will pay him to be a starter.

You seem to be misunderstanding what a solid backup is, we have guys as primary backups who on good teams would be the guys that get dumped multiple times a season depending on needs, just look at Underwood, the guy was bottom of the food chain for decent teams but we end up with him as the primary backup who was thrust into a starting role. You will NEVER win when your depth is so poor, nobody is talking about 22 All Pro starters and Pro Bowl alternates as backups, just a roster with NFL calibre players and quality starters in places of importance rather than highly paid names at lesser positions like guard & safety. As far as 40 TDs from the QB, where was that ever said? An effective QB doesn't mean a QB with good stats, if it did I'd have been impressed by Freeman breaking worthless franchise records in 2012. Personally I couldn't care less what Lovie thinks works on offense, the guy proved he has no clue about offense, that's why he missed the playoffs 5 of his last 6 seasons and got shown the door. I'm less than impressed with the Lovie hire.

Anyone asking themselves why we didn't see this movement to rid ourselves of Doug Martin until after he was injured. Hoping one of these smart people who have it figured all out can explain to me why we didn't trade him after his rookie season when value was at its highest. Better yet, why wasn't it even mentioned until now?I'm still calling BS. Guy got hurt, back ups were smoke and mirrors ( seriously, read some of these arguments about sporadic yardage outbursts and how Martin is slammed for them but James/Rainey aren't), same crowd cried about Blount, yadda, yadda, yadda. Dougie isn't going anywhere. Please get mad about it.

The 1st time I thought about was the day Trent Richardson went to Indy for a 1st round pick. RBs are not that hard to find and more teams now utilize multiple backs. Bell cow backs who get 25 carries a game are a dying breed.

Exactly. And if a player who sucks ass can net a 1st round pick shoulder a HoFer be able to net even more

They'll need the roster spots for some true professionals.

No idea why I am even entertaining this ridiculous idea, but even if we did want to trade Martin...the fact that the Richardson trade ended up being so awful and Martin is coming off an injury that put him on IR....there is no trade value there. The whole scenario makes zero sense. Maybe in Madden, but not in reality.

A HOFer? Great yes but seriously HOF? That's one hell of a stretch.

I'm not gonna even take the time to explain why Martin looked like a HoF as a rookie. You can try to explain how he didn't if you'd like.

Because that was ONE season with big yardage games and games where he didn't do much.He looked great but how many RBs had a great season and tailed out from that? CJ and Jamal Lewis had 2000 yard seasons and I don't think they're HOFers.. Priest Holmes had one or two seasons with cartoon numbers and he's not a HOFer. And the list could go on and on.Alfred Morris looked like a HOF too?

I'm calling BS on the "after he was injured". I never wanted a top pick wasted on a RB and was saying we should trade him last year. As was Dal.  And others.  In fact most of the "trade Martin" crowd was calling for it well before he got hurt.  And it's not a matter of "getting mad" so just grow the hell up.

Show me, please. Also, take a look at the four teams playing in the championship games. Three of the four had first round RBs, while the third had Tom Brady as their QB. Without an elite signal caller, you need high end talent in the backfield.

If we do trade Martin it should be for an NFL player, not an unknown guy coming out of college. I don't know the actual stats, but let's say 25% of 2nd rounders become Pro Bowlers or good starters (probably not being conservative enough in that estimate). That's just poor expected value even if you could somehow get 2 2nds for Martin. I would rather take the 90% chance of Doug Martin being a good player again.
