Marshall Faulk? That's setting the bar pretty high, but I wouldn't actually be surprised (I don't know) if their rookie years weren't about the same? Who knows?  The problem is this year and using that as part of the analysis, its not like Martin forgot how to play this year . . the team SUCKED and he played during the early part of the season.

No but running backs who are hit and miss will have high variances. As good as AP is he's had two monsterous seasons, 1760 yards and then his 2097 last year. Short of those years his other years have been in the 1000 to 1300 range which is good but not OMFG levels of good.

Dude will be a HOFer. Just out of curiosity, who are the elite RBs in the league right now in your opinion?

There is no such thing. It is like asking about elite punters.  I think the things people look at for backs are mostly wrong. Peterson and many of the generally viewed elite backs are guys who break big runs but are not good down in and down out.  Backs I like are guys who provide more consistency - Pierra Thomas , Fred Jackson, Steven Ridley - than home run threat.

Defense we are pretty much fine.  Not ideal, but talented enough to have a good defense.  We are wasting money in Goldson and Revis, and may be better off replacing Gloldson.  Revis, while a good player is just sucking down too many resources, he needs to be traded ideally but at least a restructure needs to happen.  LBs are fine.  We could use another vet CB, that's not hard to do.  We could use a pass rushing DE, but we may already have one and we can't tell because of how retarded our system was last year.  All in all on that side of the ball things aren't ideal, but we have the pieces to field a top 10 defense with good coaching IMO.Offense gets tricky.  MWill and VJax are too similar in their skillsets, we need a speed/quick option to balance them out.  I'm not on the FOTM TE bandwagon.  Would love to trade Martin -- RB is just not a place to hoard resources, and we could get something for him, everyone thinks he is much better than he really is and we can replace that production easily.  The OL is a mess.  Dotson is a keeper, we may have to keep Penn as unless we draft a replacement it's going to be hard to replace him quickly.  Nicks is just done and Zoot and Joseph need to go.  Fortunately, revamping 3 interior OL is not as big a task as replacing 3 skill position players.QB is a big question mark, but I think Glennon can win his share of games in a more complementary system rather than on that seemed to deliberately ignore his strengths and force him to play to his weaknesses like we had this year.

What's the point of blowing up the roster? Barely anyone on this roster has worked with an NFL level coaching staff, or played in an NFL level scheme. Dashon Goldson was an All Pro last season. He was a bit overrated because of his hits, but he actually played good coverage and made plays. This year he turns into a terrible safety. It's not a coincidence at all, and it's not a novel idea that coaching makes a big difference in a player's talent. If the roster needs any major changes, then it can wait until next year when we get an accurate picture of how good our players actually are. Bowers and Clayborn really might be 10 sacks a year kind of DEs. Foster might be something more than a one dimensional run stopper who disappears in games. Barron might actually play like a 7th overall pick. Doug Martin might be a 1000 yard rushing/receiving player. Mike WIlliams might actually be able to get open. It's not like he's any worse of an athlete compared to guys like Eric Decker. How many chances has he actually gotten in the open field? When you're running go routes every time, you don't get a chance to get open that often. Look at his 2010 season to see his YAC ability, or that play in 2012 against the Rams where he took a pass in open field and went all the way. How often do you see him in that situation? Scheme to get your guys open, get some mismatches going. Lots of receivers are making their money against safeties and linebackers. We have Mike Williams running deep routes/intermediate sideline routes against the #1 CB while VJax gets double covered on another deep route and then blame those guys for being slow. The only guys that I would get rid of this season are the ones who are too expensive to try out, or are just older enough to know what kind of player they will be. Joseph, even playing at his previous best, is not a player worth 6 million a year. Koenen playing at his best is not worth 3.5 million a year, and punters won't improve a whole lot. Nicks might just be too hurt to continue his career. He was the best guard in the game at one point, and it's terrible that we never got to see that performance, and that his career has ended early, but with his injury he will never play at an 8 milliion dollar a year level again. Revis has to be restructured because 16 million a year is ridiculous.

So, just any u drafted bum can produce 2000+ yards from scrimmage? Show me any other skill position that can do that. So, a collection of backs can do it. Is it any coincidence that RB-by-committee teams like New England and New Orleans also have elite QBs?

Sure about that? Lovie used Forte as a featured back. Tedford's done it too. Any evidence to the contrary or are you just stirring the pot?

Blow up the OL. Other than that, just keep adding talent by drafting well and making wise decisions in FA. No need for a complete demolition.

One of the few things we can agree on. Outside of OL, I don't get the "blow it up" mentality. I think some Red Boarders are bored.

If we get similar results next season, then that might be reason for a major roster shake up. Give the new staff an opportunity to work with what we have.

I don't look at it like that, everyone likes Martin and will be thrilled with another good season. Doesn't change the idea that a different rb could do the same thing with adequate blocking and sound playcalling.

You could say that about any player at any position on any team

McCoy, David, Revis...only 3 that should be considered safe. Everyone else at this point is expendable in my eyes. That includes Mark Barron. That includes Doug Martin. If Trent Richardson can be had for a 1st we might be able to get at least that for Martin. No one should be safe on the 32nd ranked offense.

Why in the world would you get rid of Martin? He is one of the big bright spots on this offense, that makes ZERO sense

Because it's the deepest group on the team and it can fill a need be it through draft or vet trade. Tedford doesn't need 1 bell cow back.Bottom line, he's good, but he's also replaceable -e.i. last season.See Dal's comments.

You can't blow up the roster.... it will gut any depth. There's plenty to work with, needs some tweeking is all.

You dont blow up rosters in the NFL. Nobody does that. This is a win-now league. If they come out and say we are on a 5-year rebuilding plan, the fans here won't accept that. No coach gets 5 free years to build a team. That doesn't happen in this league.Lovie only has 4-year contract. He only has 2-3 years to start winning or the natives will get restless.
