The "he couldn't beat out DTN" narrative is crap. At no point has DTN ever been more productive than Bowers. Bowers got in the Schiano dog house, simple as that. Besides, it's not like Greg knew what to do with DLineman. We all know that and **CENSORED**ed about it for two years straight, but when it comes to Bowers, he was supposed to be able to bypass the stupidity of the line games? I'll wait to see what he can do with a competent staff.
ThisI find it funny that as much as we bash Schiano for his scheme, we then criticize the player for not excelling in said scheme. Same applies to Glennon....the rookie went 19/9 in a failed system that took Eli 3 years to figure out....If this staff is as good as everyone says, then it should be a clean slate and wait and see approach for the entire roster.
You can rotate DEs and everything is golden. Placing ALL your eggs in the Glennon basket is nuts. Unless you have some kind of info no one else does. This team is a good QB and 3rd pass catcher away from the playoffs
It's one thing to be a "victim of circumstance" but it's a complete other thing to come in fat and out of shape..........to keep guys like him around because of their "potential" sends the absolute wrong message to others. I'd cut his azz on GP just to serve notice to the locker room.............
I am surprised he is still here. They would be better off giving that roster spot to a UFA, at least he would have a chance to turn into a decent player down the road.
Time to put up or shut up. DL ard OL seem to be some of the later bloomers. Cam Jordan looks good now and he did not the first couple of years.
You can't go into the season with Bowers as your starter again. Whether it's through Free Agency or the Draft he needs competition. Players either have it or they don't. Bowers was promising coming out of college but he just hasn't produced at the NFL level. Time to move on IMO.
He's 23 and has a base salary under a million. I'd let Lovie kick the tires instead of giving another coach a chance to tap into the potential.

he looked good by year two.

Don't put words in my mouth. Not once did I say "hand them the job" I just said don't cast them off based on a body of work that was constructed under the worst coaching staff in the NFL.
In terms of pressure per pass rush, he was still our most effective DE this season. It will be interesting to see what Lovie can get out of him.

Ah. I thought you were one of those DONT DRAFT A QB derps

See I keep hearing about this potential but guys with that flash.. Usually when you have guy with massive potential, once or two twice in a game he'll do something that makes you say "wow, did you see that?"... Bowers has never done anything remotely close to being special so I'm wondering what is this eruption we're waiting to see. He couldn't even do anything against 3rd stringers in the preseason. You can look at a guy like Gholston with his rookie season and say we probably got a solid player there... With Bowers you have to look at back his senior year in college and he's going in to his 4th year in the league.I would say let Lovie kick the tires and see what he looks like in Training camp but if we bring in a UDFA that flashes SOMETHING I'm picking him over Bowers easily.

except Bowers HAS shown flashes. There are plays where he's incredibly disruptive. Look a few posts up. He was our most effective pass rusher on a per play basis. For whatever reason, that kept him on the bench

Really? He's usually unnoticeable to me.

Unless he's bringing his gun on the field, the guy is totally irrelevant....next!
Bowers is effective as a situation pass rusher but the guy isn't cut out to be a 3 down guy until he proves it.
