Matt Flynn  There’s one axiom that almost every football coach, analyst and fan believes about the game today: The NFL is a quarterback-driven league. If a team has a good one, they are a contender. If they don’t, they have no chance of competing for a title. Thus, landing an elite signal caller is priority No. 1 for every team. While the best place to find one is in the draft, not every team is in a position to snag the next Andrew Luck, and not every franchise is fortunate enough to discover the next Russell Wilson. So if a team can’t add their quarterback of the future, a guy who can make them a contender for the next decade, they need to find another solution. Enter free agency. While only a stop-gap measure, free agency can at least help a team keep its head above water. With a competent QB, franchises can accurately evaluate the rest of their roster, avoiding the trap of circling the drain because of incompetence under center. In the latest breakdown of the best free agents on the market in 2015, cover32 outlined the top-10 quarterbacks. Most of them won’t pan out as anything more than a stop-gap, but that won’t stop teams from trying to get lucky. Are any of them a good fit for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? In looking through the list, one name jumped off the page – Brian Hoyer. Here’s what writer Buck Stanton said about the talented quarterback: “Across the past two years, Hoyer has posted a 10-6 record in what totals the equivalent of an entire NFL season; that’s pretty darn good. Considering that he did it in Cleveland, a dysfunctional franchise, and mostly without his best weapon, as Josh Gordon missed most of his starts, it’s downright amazing. It’d be interesting to see what Hoyer could do in a better situation.” There is about a 90 percent chance that either Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota will be in Tampa Bay by the start of next season, but that doesn’t mean the Buccaneers’ quarterback situation will be solved. They’ll need a guy to help mentor one of these two rookie quarterbacks–probably even start a few games at the start of the season–and Hoyer is the perfect man for that job.link
