Bucs: LT Smith elevated game against better competition By Roy Cummings | Tribune Staff Published: May 14, 2015 The Bucs believe second-round pick Donovan Smith is ready to take over at left tackle, in part because they believe he has a knack for elevating his game when the level of competition improves. JASON BEHNKEN/STAFF TAMPA — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have big plans for second-round draft pick Donovan Smith this season. A Penn State product, the 6-foot-6, 325-pound Smith is expected to take over as the Bucs’ starting left tackle. That’s no small chore, especially for a rookie, but the Bucs believe Smith is ready for those duties, in part because they believe he has a knack for elevating his game when the level of competition improves. “When you watch his college tape, when he played against the good players, he played better than good,’’ Bucs offensive line coach George Warhop said. “I mean he played really well. “It was like, the better the competition, the better he played. Some of these guys that were high draft picks that he went against (in college), he got after them very well, so we’re excited about it.’’ [email protected] (813) 259-7979 Twitter: @RcummingsTBO
