New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick left Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders after suffering a hand injury just six plays in. Geno Smith, he of the preseason broken jaw, stepped in for his first action, and, well ... the results were not exactly encouraging.During the first half, Smith was 6-of-10 for 61 yards and one touchdown. That apparently was not enough to calm Jets management's fears. Per Pro Football Talk, the Jets have already begun making inquiries about possible quarterbacks. Ryan Mallett, former Texans QB, would be the obvious choice, though the Jets might want to tell him the game starts the day before it really does.Late in the game, Smith took a hit that injured his left shoulder and abdomen. Fitzpatrick, meanwhile, tore ligaments in his left hand. So it appears that whether it's Mallett or someone else, there will be a need for a new quarterback in New York this week.Smith finished 27-of-42 for 265 yards, two TDs and an interception. The Jets lost, 34-20.
