People are presuming Trask is the front runner because he is the only QB under contract. But the Bucs will bring a vet QB in to compete with Trask and a drafted rookie QB IMVHO.
It doesn't really matter who the QB will be because this is going to be a run first offense now.
Our d was ok last year and if we can get our oline doing a better job in the run game we might be a decent team. As long as we are able to keep some decent guys around. If not maybe it is better to tank because future might be easier to build a competitive team although I think with right moves this team could be competitive. They need to make the right decisions tho and we will see if they're able to do that.
1. Getting under the cap. Actually not difficult.
2. Trask and who at QB? I have a cringey feeling it will be Baker Mayfield.
3. Getting a LT. There wasn't offensive line problems, just a problem. Because of his cap number and poor play, Donovan Smith is an obvious cut. Save over $15M by releasing him with a 6/1 designation. I suspect this will be the 1st round pick. And for the love of God leave Wirfs at RT. He's a lock Hall of Famer at this point, dont mess with it.
4. Keeping the secondary in tact. It took alot of misses (Banks, Hargreaves, Stewart) but the Bucs built an excellent secondary through the draft. Already lost Whitehead which was a mistake. And are about to lose Dean, Edwards and SMB. This might be a bigger priority than QB. I would consider tagging Dean. Would hate to lose Edwards, he's a good player.
5. Keeping the right MLB. Bucs have to keep David and find a trade partner for Devin White. He's not good and and trading him would save a whopping $11.7M in cap space.

Problem is, the tape's out. It's been out.
Why would anyone want to trade for him?
I'm actually more worried that we'll extend him.

Shudder at the thought.

Just takes one team to be willing to give up atleast a 7th.
Surely there’s a coaching staff that thinks they can “fix” Devin White. Just like there was a coaching staff that thought they could fix Lameis Jameis. 😀
There is. It's the Bucs coaching staff. I'm not trying to be a White booster, but Bowles and Licht are the ones who drafted him in the top ten. They will want to prove they made the right call drafting him. They don't want to successful picks Vea and Wirfs to sandwich around a disappointing #5 pick. But if that's what it is, then once the contract runs out, as with Winston, all bets are off.Surely there’s a coaching staff that thinks they can “fix” Devin White. Rather trade him than try to fix him... If we fix him then we'll have to pay him 20 million or lose him. Pay him 20 million and almost guarantee he becomes mediocre again. He's a dumbass. Trade him now and get something for him, save 11 million off the cap, and draft a replacement in ~3rd round. Re-sign Lavonte.
They can lose him to the market and claim cap hit. They have the cover of the Super Bowl

Lol. Well played.
But, seriously, what do you think he could fetch on the market?
High end? 3rd rounder?
Low end? 5th rounder?
The Bucs could get a third round pick for White. There are teams that would look at his tape and say that his problems can be fixed by coaching and working in a different defensive scheme.Just takes one team to be willing to give up atleast a 7th.

If they can get a third they should take it and say they got something when they were going to lose him in FA anyway
in order to do that you first need a top QB in the draft. is there any in 2024? 🤔
