New to the board but a long-time lurker. I'm a big numbers guy and thought I would throw something together for my first post.
Since Jameis' rookie season the Bucs are 19-4 when the defense holds our opponent to 23 points or less.
In that same timeframe, the Bucs are 3-30 when the defense allows 24 points or more. (Average points given up in those games is 30.96!)
Blaming Jameis (or Fitz for that matter) for our losses is ridiculous. When the Bucs D does it's job, the Bucs win. When it doesn't (all the time nowadays), the Bucs lose. You shouldn't have to score 35-40 points every week to get a win.
Last season 25 out of the 32 teams gave up less than 24 points/game. It's not that tough to do.
To think that Jameis is at fault for the Bucs' struggles is mind-blowing to me. Sure, he throws some interceptions but so did Peyton Manning, Brett Favre, John Elway, Dan Marino, and plenty of others when they were young. And he's younger than all of them were at this point in their career. Aaron Rodgers had never even started an NFL game before he was 24.
If the Bucs' defense, running game, kicker, front office, and Head Coach of the Bucs were all just AVERAGE instead of significantly below average, the perception of Jameis Winston would be completely different.
