We are going to be good next year. But to answer your question Hate, I believe every coach should get at least 3-5 years to develop a team. Three at minimum, and if there is still constant losing going on after the first three years, you can the guy. If you can't make up your mind, give him an extra two years and use that time to further evaluate the guy. But today, people want things too soon. Its unrealistic..... Those Harbaugh type coaches don't come around very often.
I don't see how anyone can watch that video and think, "Man, this guy is a **CENSORED**ty coach".
There is more to being a good coach than just coach speak. It looks like he will be around long enough for us to see how good of a coach he is. But I can't see anyone watching that video and thinking, "Man, what an A hole bully that guy is."
That argument is so stale though. Not every championship coach posted winning records in their first couple years of being a head coach at this level. In fact, there are many coaches who started off on a rocky path.
True.... and there are some that mastered the art of suckage from day one. How long are you willing to wait to determine which one we've been blessed with?
Plenty of people have already decided that Schiano is a bad coach. I tend to agree with that assessment. I do disagree with how completely they think he sucks, and I am also willing to entertain the idea that maybe our coordinators (especially on offense) are possibly a bigger issue. Without comparing Schiano to Dungy, I do recall the offense struggling under Tony, and we all understood that it wasn't him, but the coordinators he hired that were the problem. And he was given chances to change them. To me, Schiano seems like a good leader, but not particularly sharp on X and O, which makes him more dependent on coordinators. I'd still fire him, but I'm not going to pretend I'm certain he couldn't do better with better support staff. And I'm not entirely pleased with going to yet another coach again.I'll also point out that I'm getting more sympathetic towards keeping the guy simply because of the outrageously disproportionate hate for the guy. His record doesn't warrant the absolute hatred he gets. People seem to blame him for everything including Global Warming.

I like this assessment. Particularly the part about the coordinators. I do think the guy knows how to run an organization, and that is what an NFL coach has to do. It would be interesting to see what would happen if he could get some proven coordinators in here. My only concern would be if he would allow them enough control.

I can agree with pretty much all of this, but I disagree a little on the last part. Yes, his record isn't absolutely dreadful when you see it's 11-18, but when you look at the talent on the roster and then check the record again, it is pretty fucking awful. This is a playoff roster and at one point, we were 0-8 and a lot of people were thinking 0-16 was a legit possibility. Most coaches would love to have a roster like this and I bet half of the coaches in the league would have this roster in the playoffs. The fact that it got that bad under Schiano with this roster has a lot of people ticked off with him. We've been waiting a long time to have a roster this talented and the Glazers finally spent the cash to make it happen. This was supposed to the big year where we put it all together and even management was saying this. So with the entire fanbase pumped about the year thinking this was finally the season we would make some noise, a lot of people were disappointed and furious at Schiano for starting off 0-8 and destroying everyone's high hopes. The guy gets a lot of hate, but a lot of it is deserved.
Hate: "I see that, very weird. Coach says "we gotta put our face on these RBs". Didn't Rah get blasted for that??"I think it was the part about taking your underwear off first that brought him the derision.
We are going to be good next year.
This is the same homer echo that we he prior to every year, it seems. As long as that thought still exists, Hate, then there will never be a time where he needs to be canned, because rainbows and daffodils are on the horizon..."next year", of course.
It's good to see Schiano is learning to control his strong personality. It's my opinion that was the main cause for the unrealistic level of hatred. Especially irked me that he got so overly pissed off at the officials on every call. That influences more calls.Unfortunately, we continue to look for that franchise QB... I thought Free was it, boy was I wrong. Set this organization back 2 to 3 years IMO. (Glennon may or may not be the guy.)Its obvious the players are all in with the guy. He'll get 2014 to prove the owners right or wrong.I don't think Sullivan lasts...at all, not the strong personality - unsure of his decisions IMO. Sheridan might stick probably only because Schiano is a defensive coach.
Schiano can be a HC. The organization is organized and seems to be drafting well and the players are playing despite a horrific start. There is an open question, however, about whether Schiano can be an NFL HC . That question is only "open" because of the very unusual circumstances this year (in particular, the fact that the early failure lies, at least in part, at the feet of a QB he replaced with one who has managed a few wins) and the recent turn around. But for that, he would probably be gone. He may get another year, but it will be a heavily scrutinized year.
That argument is so stale though. Not every championship coach posted winning records in their first couple years of being a head coach at this level. In fact, there are many coaches who started off on a rocky path.

I think three years is good enough time to see what you have. The guy gets his people in there and gets rid of the guys who don't buy in. I think if he can't win next year it's time to move on.

You just can't measure a large metric such as winning, which literally can be changed by a thousand factors NOT controlled by the coach, and parlay that into a sweeping generalization. Truth is that we had big plays go AGAINST us in some of our losses and big plays go FOR us in some of our wins. The sound FX stuff shows me that Schiano knows the game, he knows how to coach and it shows his interaction with his players. It doesn't show the X's and O's behind the game planning which is what I think a majority posters here complain about with Schiano. We need stability here in Tampa and we can't keep changing HC's. If Schiano is back and I believe he's more likely to come back than not, it's because they owners still believe in him, period. His record isn't good but he hasn't had a good QB either so it's hard to tell if we lose because of Schiano or because we can't consistently execute the offensive game plan.

X 1 (1 year)
When I watch Schiano I see a passionate man that loves football and is still figuring out how to run a professional team. He knows how to lead, that part is obvious, also the players play hard and don't give up. If you watch the Bucs play this season without knowing the records you'd swear we were fighting for a play off spot. I think he needs AT LEAST one more season to see if he can bring us to the next level. I see him learning from mistakes, I notice him getting input from his veteran coaches and players, he is learning and getting better, he seems smart enough to learn from his mistakes and I think he will . Josh Freeman could have been handled better, but then again how do we know thats all his fault? We've had injuries, ridiculous penalties, horrible kicking, bad offensive play calling and a few issues on defense that had us playing revis in the zone for half the season, some of these things are his fault, but as I pointed out, he's learning from mistakes so I would give him another chance to see what he's learned. Schiano has the intangibles, and he's getting a grasp on the tangibles, give him more time. Or would you rather tear down and rebuild again and probably be 4-12 next season and hopefully be 7-9 in 2015 just to hear everyone complain about how we need a new coach in 2016? Be patient fellow Buc fansP.S. one thing that worries me is how have we not cut Lindell and signed Dimke from the practice squad? didn't the kid make a 50+ yarder in the pre season?

Agree with this 100%. Good post. Problem is we live in a quick fix society. It's easy to say that when its not working now it will never work. I think sometimes you need to be sure. I said that about Raheem and I think Gruden got plenty of time here to show if he could lead this team. It hasn't been enough time in my opinion to know if Schiano can or can't. It's easier for fans to say that he can't just because of his record. But has he really got his guys in here in just two seasons? He got rid of most of the crap. He should have another offseason to do so and learn and fix his mistakes. If he doesn't then he will be good as gone.

Fair enuff!!I'm of the mindset that Freeman fukked this team over big time....if I could see it from the outside, i can only imagine how screwed up if was up close and personal.
