you can't get mad at the people demanding change though. watching your team lose 8-13 games a season can be pretty stressful, especially when you see little calls and decisions that you feel you would have done differently, but we aren't talking about coaching your son's youth team, this is professional football and if you're in the NFL it's cause you were the best at what you did in college or where ever. None of us know how to run an NFL team, but we all act like we'd take this team right to the super bowl, we all act like its just baking a cake. When Schiano first came here the Glaziers made sure we hired advisers with NFL experience, because we knew exactly where he was gonna struggle, with the X's and O's. Now everyone's all mad that he's struggling with the X's and O's when we knew what Schiano was, a great leader, not a great play caller. Dominik is the builder, Schiano is the leader, Butch Davis helps with the X's and O's on D Jimmy Raye helps with the X's and O's on offense. When you look at this team right now, we struggle on offense, despite the insane amount of injuries the O unit should be a lot better, but again if you didn't expect to see our O struggle then you aren't paying attentionOne thing you have to give him MAJOR credit for, he saw that Free was not our guy, and he brought in someone who he thought could either push him, or step in and not miss a beat. That shows that he does know a little bit about football players abilities or attitudes. Free isn't a Schiano guy, but can you imagine how bad it would have been for him if he traded Free in his 1st year, or even before this season?Schiano is not perfect (which is what most expect) but he is figuring this thing out, just like he said. I honestly think he needs 2 more years. But from what I see, I would guess that with another off season he can bring this team to the play offs
I think Bucs fans also don't have enough trust in the family that took this joke of an NFL team and made them Super Bowl contenders in the late 90's early 00's. It's not easy to win the Super Bowl, its not easy to lure All Pro players and high profile coaches to a team that hadn't won more than 6 games in a 10 year period. I used to work at a restaurant that the Glazier family went to very frequently back in the day, and I can assure you, unless they are amazing actors, that the Glaziers care about this team A LOT! They live in Tampa, not England, they hear the fans voice and I think they know Schiano has the intangibles to be a Super Bowl winning coach and they're smart enough (thank god) to give him time to learn the tangibles, and you'd have to be blind to not see that the man is learning, and he does not appear to be in over his head.
Big difference between being a good leader, a good manager and a good tactician. In my military experience, Ive seen people who are good at one or two of these, but your really special - your really exceptional, excel at all three facets. At the NFL level, in order to be successful, I think you need to be all three. Schiano seems to be a good leader, a so-so manager, and a decent tactician (defensively). The good thing is, I believe he can improve and excel at all three. The bad thing? This is the NFL (Not For Long League). Ownership won't have the patience to allow this guy to grow into the position. Im still waiting until the final whistle in week 17 to render my judgement.
We are going to be good next year.
This is the same homer echo that we he prior to every year, it seems. As long as that thought still exists, Hate, then there will never be a time where he needs to be canned, because rainbows and daffodils are on the horizon..."next year", of course.
Not true. If the guy can't win in 3-5 years of signing his contract he needs to be canned. If the guy goes 0-16 at any time, he needs to be canned. If the guy loses 10 straight he needs to be canned. If the guy's players stop believing in him he needs to be canned. If the team quits he needs to be canned.Don't mistake optimism for weakness and never confuse pessimism with strength.

I agree 99% with your post, as long as we dont regress, then I would bring him back. I agree with your assesment on Schiano too, and I believe he has enough passion to improve areas of weakness enough to be a good if not great coach. This is the NFL, and he doesn't have long to show his success, but if we happen to make the play offs next season in this division, the man deserves a new contract because we continued to show resilience during bad weeks and improved on our mistake. If not, he;s canned. But WHAT IF we went 7-9 AGAIN and just looked competitive in every game like we always do? Does he play out the contract? or do we replace him?

My problem is I don't see X and O brilliance, but I barely see X and O competence. The defensive scheme is a mess and doesn't play to our strengths. The offensive scheme doesn't play to our strengths either. The whole notion he spouts about ball control and deep shots is a low percentage type of scheme to begin with. We still lead the league in flags so all the rah rah bit doesn't make us smarter. Toss in he will have a sub 500 record and I think we've seen enough to know what the guy is or isn't. He won't magically get a lot smarter and the schemes we are running won't get better overnight either. I mean in 2 years his signature win is over a shakey Lions team that made a ton of mistakes. Beat the Niners or Saints to show me something -- assuming the saints will have something to play for week 17.

ahh my nemesis the pessimist!Well the defense is 12th overall, and 1st in turnovers plus 1st in turnover differential, so I don't see where you are coming from there. The flags are an issue that scare me, while a lot of them have been BS, there were a TON of flags early on, but it seems to have calmed down a bit, we'll see if it continues. YOU may have seen enough, but some people with a lot more football knowledge obviously want to see more, or he wouldn't still have his job now.Last season we beat a play off team, a team with a RB in the middle of the 2nd best season a running back has ever had, on Thursday night on prime time, we handled them pretty easily too. I think thats a pretty big win. I agree we need more signature wins, but don't discount some pretty big wins, That Dolphins game was a big win too.I also don't understand you logic that magic needs to happen in order for someone to learn something. Thats just dumb bro, come on open your eyes up to the world!
"Last season we beat a play off team, a team with a RB in the middle of the 2nd best season a running back has ever had, on Thursday night on prime time, we handled them pretty easily too."You're tilting at windmills. Dal thinks running backs are a relic from the sixties, and next to worthless in today's NFL.
I enjoyed the video, and I liked seeing how direct and honest Schiano was with the players. That's a quality that serves an NFL HC well. That being said, I do not think he has earned another year here and I would be fine with letting him go.

that pretty much sums up my feelings
Thats part of the problem in the Schiano decision. He was stubborn and stuck to his guns until he lost to the point where it was likely hed be fired. After beating square pegs into round holes to the point his job was at stake, that's when he began to make changes. Was it self preservation or was it "learning"? I haven't seen enough to suggest hes learned anything other than loosening the reigns a little on this team.So do you look at all the games prior to the last 5 and say, it just took him that long to learn and hell continue to change to the NFL? or do you see a desperate coach whos likely to stick to his guns when his job isn't on the line?Do you look at the last 4 wins and see a heavily talented team that beat the bottom of the NFL a few games and lucked into a 5 turnover win against the lions? Or do you see a coach whos finally getting it in the NFL and is finally beating the teams the Bucs should?I tend to think he isn't going to change much. Once he got those first 3 wins, the creative calls stopped and most everything went back to the way he was doing it. I think he was desperate and self preservation kicked in. I think in some ways he has improved and learned, but not enough for me to excuse his games prior. Im not excited over beating bad teams and getting a win against a team that beat itself(whos also average most years at best). Beating some bad teams when your jobs on the line and you start pulling out all the punches isn't enough to get me to think he should stay. If he closes out the rest of the year well, hell get another year for sure and well have another whole season to see if hes really turned over a new leaf. If he doesn't close out well, I think the Bucs should move on. A huge reason I feel that way is Raheem was a bad HC. Raheem, if you look at their first 2 seasons, has so far done more with less. If Raheem had a year like Schiano is having his 2nd year, most would have been calling for him to be fired as well. Raheem went 13-19 his first 2 years with an absolutely desolate team talent wise. Raheem didn't have any HC experience, even on the college level. If everyone acknowledges Raheem was a bad coach, cant we at the very least use that as a low barometer for Schiano who has a far more talented team? Schiano is at 11 wins total the first 2 years, and has 3 games to get where Morris was at. either way, if you think Morris was a bad coach, then you shouldn't be sold on Schiano already and already be sold on him returning next year without the whole season playing out. 4 wins at the end of a bad season against bad teams shouldnt provide enough hope to think hes the man. Thinking he should get another year if he closes out the year well is no where near unreasonable. Thinking hes already made a case for next year based on 4 wins against primarily bad teams is by no means reasonable, especially when the Bucs could lose out, possibly even in poor fashion.theres a case for both sides of the argument, but I don't see any reason as to why hes shown enough to keep him when the season isn't over. On the otherside however, theres a lot of reasons to say he should be gone regardless of the last 4 games.....the positive their for Schiano is theres still 3 games left to make his case.Same goes for Glennon as well. He hasn't shown enough to ignore any possible upgrades at QB(has shown some positives too), but he can make a case for not drafting one high or signing a big FA over the next 3 games regardless if Schiano stays or not.

Is this your alternate account BucsSavant?
You can see why the players still like this guy. I love the conversation with Revis.I think we should do what coach says. "Stay the course and the wins will come" . They will . They are already starting to.Trust . Belief . Wave Ride Ability baby !
That argument is so stale though. Not every championship coach posted winning records in their first couple years of being a head coach at this level. In fact, there are many coaches who started off on a rocky path.
True.... and there are some that mastered the art of suckage from day one. How long are you willing to wait to determine which one we've been blessed with?
Plenty of people have already decided that Schiano is a bad coach. I tend to agree with that assessment. I do disagree with how completely they think he sucks, and I am also willing to entertain the idea that maybe our coordinators (especially on offense) are possibly a bigger issue. Without comparing Schiano to Dungy, I do recall the offense struggling under Tony, and we all understood that it wasn't him, but the coordinators he hired that were the problem. And he was given chances to change them. To me, Schiano seems like a good leader, but not particularly sharp on X and O, which makes him more dependent on coordinators. I'd still fire him, but I'm not going to pretend I'm certain he couldn't do better with better support staff. And I'm not entirely pleased with going to yet another coach again.I'll also point out that I'm getting more sympathetic towards keeping the guy simply because of the outrageously disproportionate hate for the guy. His record doesn't warrant the absolute hatred he gets. People seem to blame him for everything including Global Warming.
I can agree with pretty much all of this, but I disagree a little on the last part. Yes, his record isn't absolutely dreadful when you see it's 11-18, but when you look at the talent on the roster and then check the record again, it is pretty **CENSORED**ing awful. This is a playoff roster and at one point, we were 0-8 and a lot of people were thinking 0-16 was a legit possibility. Most coaches would love to have a roster like this and I bet half of the coaches in the league would have this roster in the playoffs. The fact that it got that bad under Schiano with this roster has a lot of people ticked off with him. We've been waiting a long time to have a roster this talented and the Glazers finally spent the cash to make it happen. This was supposed to the big year where we put it all together and even management was saying this. So with the entire fanbase pumped about the year thinking this was finally the season we would make some noise, a lot of people were disappointed and furious at Schiano for starting off 0-8 and destroying everyone's high hopes. The guy gets a lot of hate, but a lot of it is deserved.
The Freeman debacle, MRSA & IR pretty much negate your points. Sorry, but he'll no doubt get a pass. Sheridan will probably get one too. Sully may not.Like 24 stated, you give a guy 3-5 under most circumstances.
I like how my man said guys on this board think they know X's and O's because they coach their kids Pop Warner team ( FN Brililant ) he forgot one thing Madden got these kats screwed up too. Coach S makes his mistakes But not one kat on this board can hold his jock in game planning. You know how I know this. I reading your shit on an Fn message board. Not watching you walking the sidelines of any college team or pros. Thank God we live in America because you are in title to your opinions.
