OK... so let's assume that we need a new GM and Coach. If that is the case, I wonder how we should spend our FA money and draft picks?

Here are my thoughts:

1. Release/Trade Jackson. I don't think he will be tradable. We need the cap-space.

2. Resign Humphreys cheap.

3. Trade McCoy... only if we can get back a 1st or 2nd round pick. Otherwise keep him, because we will be able to afford him and he is good (although I have never thought he is elite).

4. Do not sign or draft any RB's (in the first 5 rounds). There are too many good RB's who are drafted later or picked up as rookie FA's. Honestly, I like Barber fine... and maybe a new coach will get something more out of Jones. I think the running game has sucked partly because of scheme... partly because our defense cannot stop anyone, and therefore we have to throw too much... and mostly because of the O-line. I don't think RB is where we need to spend draft capital or cap-space. We have bigger problems.

5. Release and/or trade Curry. He is not worth the cap-space he is costing.

6. Resign Alexander at the right price... or don't resign him at all. We don't need to overpay for him. IMO, LB's seem to be easier to find than other positions.

7. I don't know who will be available, but by making the above moves, we should have enough cap-space to sign at least one really good player... at CB, safety, or O-line. I don't want to sign 2 or 3 OK players. I would rather sign 1 really good player that we know will pan out and hold down a spot.

8. I believe we need to draft only defense and O-line. D-line in 1st round. DB in 2nd round. LB or O-line in 3rd round. LB or O-line in 4th round. Best defensive player available after that.
