Jdouble I haven't seen much of Donald and since you have I've got a question. Could he possibly move to left end and be effective there and still be able to spell mccoy if needed or is he strictly at dt prospect?
great question!

He'll say yes. Ask anyone else and they'll say no
He has all the physical tools to be a great end and did play some end in college. I see him as the type of guy that can play any DL position except 34 nose.
And there is no way NOOO way that McCoy will hit free agency. I would be heartbroken.
What if McCoy went on IR again next year in week two and Donald was RoY with 12 sacks?
You were just the one saying it's stupid to predict injuries, regarding Manziel. Come on man.

Could anyone see McCoy being moved to DE... if indeed Donald can't
I am on board with Donald...He is a pretty impressive player and would be terrific next to McCoy. Let's grab Jared Allen in FA for the end spot.
Agree. But only if Manziel, Teddy, Robinson, or Jedeveon (<~~~major red flags...) are gone. Donald is a beast. On obvious passing downs, paired with McCoy and presumably a vet defensive end of some worth, and Clayborn with his scrap, this Dline will destroy hopes and dreams. It seems frivolous until you think about how important his position is to the scheme. Donald seems bonafide to me. That is another reason I like him.
It would be silly to be disappointed if Donald is the pick - he shows all the signs of being a successful NFL DT.
Donald is the guy I've been waiting for since Sapp left.

I absolutely think he can. He played all over the line in college and was just as dominant no matter where he lined up. He had 11 sacks in 2011 when he played a lot of DE. Plus he is undersized for a DT and put up LB numbers at the combine. He was damn near identical to Mack in all the events that measure a players quickness and agility....so for me it seems like a no brainer that he could play on either side of McCoy and cause havoc. Many on these boards don't agree with me though, and think he is purely a DT. I think if we drafted him he would be used exactly like Michael Bennett was. LDE on 1st and 2nd down, NT on 3rd downs. But I think he will be much better than Bennett and he can replace McCoy at UT if McCoy gets hurt again. Great value and instant impact imo.
Yup. JDub wins.
These are my thoughts after watching Aaron Donald's highlight reel which is ridiculous. The quickest and shortest path to the ball is in a straight line which is from the DT position. 2 powerhouse DT blowing up the middle will make it impossible for brees and ryan to step up. If they try to run outside its over. Cam on the other hand doesn't usually step up, but rolls out- again pressure up the middle with outside contain will neutralize him. When you have a quarterback like Glennon who is the 4th best in our division, a powerhouse interior rush to opposing QBs is a great equalizer. I'm all for Donald, the more quality Defensive linemen the better. The more pressure up front the better for the back end. This will also allow Glennon the opportunity to rely on that D and grow slowly if he has to like Russell Wilson and not be forced to win in a shootout and make mistakes-afterall finding that franchise QB like and Elway,Manning,Montana as the main ingredient to win a SB is more luck than anything and can't really be relied upon; but hopefully Tedford can do what John Gruden did with the offense his 1st year. As far as the DE position everybody keeps harping on, we can get a quality DE like Allen(which would allow us to be a win now team vs getting a rookie) and hope some of our younger players learn and mature under him for the long term when he leaves.
Adding Allen & Donald or Orakpo & Donald would be sooooo sweeet boooiii!
We'll see if I change my mind over the next two months, I don't think I will, but as of right now I want Bortles or Manziel at #7. If they are both gone, then I want Greg Robinson, Aaron Donald, or Justin Gilbert. Nomatter how it goes down, we would have to mess up pretty bad to not get two immediate impact players with our first two picks. There are about 50 guys, maybe more, with 1st round grades. Good stuff!
Donald would be a welcome addition to our line. Up front pressure with him and McCoy would take pressure off of each other as well as whoever our next DE will be.
