Really the problem is that right now we have the 4th best qB in our division, and that won't change if we draft anyone, and the 3rd/4th best team. It is hard to make the playoffs if you can't even realistically target winning your division.
I think the Falcons and Saints are headed for a drop off. How old is Brees these days? The Panthers look like they will be good for the foreseeable future. So it could come down to the Panthers and Bucs battling it out for the NFC South. Its a little early to be making predictions, lets see how the draft and free agency go..
Brees will be 35 next week. The Saints should find a way to draft Johnny Manziel. He can learn from Brees over the next few years on how to play in the NFL as an undersized QB.
Sounds like a plan. But will Johnny last to the late 1st ? I can't see them trading up to the top 10, it would cost way too much.
Are the glennon supporters the same that made excuses for freeman?
Nope. They're just patient enough to give a rookie with some promise another shot with solid coaching and supporting cast, rather than turn to an unproven draftee who could very well be worse than the guy everyone wants run out of town. Seriously. Have you not paid attention to Buc QBs over the past 30+ years?
I like the Lovie hire and I think we will be better without a doubt but with one of the worse starting QBs in this league playoffs ain't happening.
Yes, and fortunately, the starting QB next year will have a competent set of coaches, a scheme that allows him to flourish and showcase his skill-set, talented skill position players, and an improved O-line. Something Glennon didn't have for most of the season.
It appears some here want to put all the blame on a rookie QB with little time to set his feet in order to run the plays that were called. We will not know what we have in Glennon until he is put into a position to succeed. Right now he looks like all the other rookie QBs playing behind a bad o-line.
That is the popular excuse.Aaron Rodgers has never had a good OL. Aaron Rodgers doesn't need any excuses either. It isn't about blaming Glennon for everything on my end. I just don't see him as an NFL ready QB at this time. 6'7" 220 pounds is too skinny. I would not be surprised if he starts next year if he gets internal injuries at some point like Chris Simms had. He is not built to take a pounding.
I don't buy this at all. As much pounding as Glennon has taken this season, I actually don't remember any instance where he had to come out of the game due to injury or even showed any noticeable propensity for injuries.I was a huge Freeman fan but there's no denying that Glennon is 10x smarter and more accurate than he was. I hate comparing players but his game reminds me of Brad's. And if our defense can regain that magic under Lovie then we've got a great future ahead of us.
Some people here always skew reasons into excuses. I root for any player in a Buc uniform as long as I see effort from them. I stopped supporting Freeman when I learned his effort was to sabotage his way out of Tampa. Both Freeman and Glennon set records for the Bucs despite less than ideal conditions. I'm now convinced that Freeman quit on the team in the middle of the 2012 season. As erratic as he was, he could have been even more prolific if the effort was there. It wasn't. It concerns me that Glennon regressed in December, but I believe he lost confidence in the people around him, players AND coaches. The coaching staff has already been upgraded, and they will give him a better system to work with. The focus will be for more weapons and better protection in personnel adjustments, and Glennon won't be a rookie anymore. 19 TDs in 13 games on a bad team by a rookie, is NOT a bad thing. In his first full season on a decent team, I believe he will set a new franchise record of 28+ TDs. Will he ever be better than Drew Brees, Fig Newton, or Matt Ryan?..................Probably not, but who the hell is? Drew Brees is clearly the best QB in the division, but he's not on the best TEAM. Fig is. We don't HAVE to have the best QB. We HAVE to have the best TEAM. The Bucs won it all with Brad Johnson. They had the team. That's what we need now. Pass judgement on Glennon in 2014 when Lovie gets his team in place.
This time last year I thought the same thing......
with Freeman under center? That was silly on your part!!

With improved pass rush, we could have the best D
If the BUcs draft Manziel, they could ascend the ranks of the QB hierarchy relatively quickly, IMO...That is if the kid lives up to the ridiculous work he did to top flight opponents regularly...against tons of NFL level talent.Roll the dice!C'mon Lovie. Take a chance on this kid!

I think so, too. If we use FA strictly on getting one really good DE and one good OL, we can use the draft on offense for playmaker and or an OL prospect. Wed basically be a big plays and defense team, like that Panthers or Seahawks which is probably the best strategy we can have without a franchise QB
Without even adding anyone, I think that we're going to be a better team. Lovie will have these guys playing a lot better than they have in the past. Doug Martin isn't going to run for 3.6 ypc and then get injured. He will threaten 2000 yards from scrimmage again, even with Mike James getting a good percentage of the carries. That alone will make a big difference in the win/loss column. Glennon won't have to do a 5 step drop while Penn is trying to hold off Robert Quinn. He's going to hand the ball off to Martin and get more than 2 yards. He's going to throw a quick pass to Martin or a receiver on a short route. Cam Newton isn't going to sit there in the pocket and not find anyone open, then take off to run for 30 yards when the ends come crashing in.
People focus on McCoy, but he wasn't the only one running those ridiculous stunts. And he wasn't asked to drop into coverage on the reg like AC our other ends. I think Lovie might be able to get a respectable pass rush out of the guys we already have in Gholston and AC. I have no doubt he's going to leverage the talent we have elsewhere to a significantly greater degree.Think about it. If an amateur like Rutgers could get the guys on this roster to a middle of the pack rating, Smith -- one of the best defensive coaches in the business -- should be able to get those same guys into a top 10 or even top 5 showing.
Also, Rutgers got four wins, and easily could have had 7. Does anyone really think Lovie won't improve on that?

Yeah exactly. As a rookie Clayborn had 7.5 sacks, he shouldn't be this unproductive in a scheme that actually lets the DE rush.
Clayborn is actually better suited for LE...not sure if his palsy arm would allow for that , though.
