the Baker discussion is like the Winston discussion - albeit for different reasons. They are both guys who can win games but ultimately aren’t going to win you championships. Baker is a ticket to a lot of 8-9 seasons once the NFCS isn’t a dogs breakfast of a division and my eagerness to return to the mediocrity treadmill is staggeringly low.

the Baker discussion is like the Winston discussion - albeit for different reasons. They are both guys who can win games but ultimately aren’t going to win you championships. but you see that's blasphemy. Winston is no where near the quarterback that Mayfield is.
I am with you that Mayfield is not likely a championship winning QB but then again neither is your 2nd through 10th best QBs in this league currently.
Baker seems to up his game in the playoffs and have led two franchises that were left for dead (Browns, and post Brady Bucs) to the playoffs. Winston, on the other hand, was 0 or 5 in his Bucs seasons and had one good pass in a playoff game against the Bucs in his 4 seasons since leaving.
compare your stats or what have you but you wont find many pundits (high football acumen) putting Winston and Mayfield in the same category after this 2023 season.

If ATL or CAR has a borderline competent QB we actually likely do not win this division. Baker won’t get better, if anything his turnover luck will regress and he will be even more maudlin.

Regarding Baker: I understand what you’re saying, I just think he’s better than 20th QB in the NFL - I’d argue that he can win & compete at a championship level - if the other components of the team are good/stellar. With a couple of additions, and those great picks on defense from last season, the defense is trending to strong/great.
The things that stir me up on the offense is, everything we need to take the pressure off of Baker - are right there & available. Interior line & running back - it’s lining up. If that happens, Tampa’s offense just gets upgraded to go along with that defense - and you’ve improved at/better that our competition in the division has done.
i agree that the division is flat, but Carr isn’t taking anyone, anywhere. Carolina needs more than a QB whisperer, and Atlanta isn’t going to improve with the FA’s that are available. If they draft a QB, they’re still a couple of years away.
The window is closing on a weak division, but I don’t see us treading water, I see us improving faster than our division rivals.
That is, if we sign Baker. It hinges on him. If you don’t re-sign him, these guys are right. You’re backing up and pointing for 3 to 5 years and you waste the acquired talent in the trenches and skills positions.
