Chad Johnson set to work out with CFL team this week By Dan Hanzus Around the League Writer NFL.comPublished: April 12, 2014 at 11:09 p.mChad Johnson could head north to continue his professional football career.NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Saturday that the former NFL wide receiver will work out for the Canadian Football League's Montreal Alouettes this week in Vero Beach, Fla."Talks did take place (and) have escalated over the last week," Alouettes general manager Jim Popp told Rapoport.Johnson hasn't played a snap since August 2012, when he was released by the Miami Dolphins following a domestic violence incident involving his now ex-wife. Johnson has expressed the desire to continue his NFL career, but has been unable to find a suitor.Johnson played 11 seasons in the NFL (2001 to 2011), spending a decade with the Cincinnati Bengals and one season with the New England Patriots. He went to five Pro Bowls with the Bengals, and was twice named first-team All-Pro.Which is to say that before his colorful personality became the overarching narrative of his career, Johnson had been a very productive wide receiver. The CFL isn't the erstwhile Ochocinco's first choice, but it's his best option at age 36.
