Bucs receive barkley

Giants receive 2024 2nd rounder and 2025 4th rounder

When healthy, Saquon Barkley has proved to be one of the NFL's top running backs. The 2018 No. 2 overall pick has yet to play a full season since his rookie year, however.

With things looking bleak for the 1-3 Giants, moving on from Barkley could be in the cards for general manager Joe Schoen. The team has Matt Breida, Gary Brightwell and do-it-all rookie talent Eric Gray from Oklahoma to carry the load in the meantime.

Tampa Bay has $62 million in 2024 cap room that should allow it to give Barkley a multiyear contract. He's currently on a one-year, $10.1 million franchise tag.

His ability coupled with pass-catchers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin on the perimeter would force teams to pick their poison defensively.

per bleacher report author Ryan fowler

if only!  Just like we can’t pay Jonathan Taylor same with Barkley. Would likely be a rental for this year.

evans, wirfs, baker, Winfield just to name a few we need to lock up.

order of importance: wirfs, awj, baker, Evans.

purely based on age, position importantance, upside, thinking of long term not short term.

I doubt any of the rb's would want to be traded without a new contract, and we wouldn't want to jsut waste a 2nd round pickthat can we can use ona cheap 4yr back

Main problem I see with this scenario is Tampa doesn’t have 10 mil in cap space. In addition to that the capital given up is too costly.  I’d like to explore the possibility of giving up a 5th which could turn into a 4th to Cleveland for Hunt or possibly a 4th for Pierre Strong.  Both are buried on the depth chart behind Jerome Ford.  Both are angry runners that have worked in similar running schemes.I don’t feel like the capital required to acquire either would be a huge hinderance to the teams future drafting, and with Strong you get a player that’s younger and still on a rookie contract that would only count 900k toward both this and next years cap.  Thoughts ?

I wouldn't mind him but its never going to happen. We've got too many players that need extended and wasting a high pick on a guy we can't resign is not good business.

I'd rather call up the Jets about Michael Carter or Commanders for Antonio Gibson

That cap number you posted is way off. Bucs only have $22M of 2024 cap space and thats only with 34 players and no starting QB. There's over $20 million of dead money, not 203k.

No. Fix the OL

Find a stud to pair with Wirfs and watch the results become groundbreaking. LG and C is our biggest weakness in the ground game

Don't the Giants need Barkley as much as anybody?  Why don't they pay him?  Why don't the Colts pay Taylor?  These teams are not pass happy teams.  These are not cap strapped teams. They need a stud RB as much as anybody, and yet they can't get a deal done with their own player?   So now the Bucs are going to come in and give a 2nd and a 4th for the right to pay this guy more than their own team wants to give them?

These guys can wait until the end of the year and bargain with whoever they want at that point.  I don't think they'll be tagged again.  Besides, what the Bucs really need is a 3rd down back to replace Edmonds and possibly help at IOL.

When you trade early draft picks for a RB that is looking for big contract, is your plan to let this RB walk or are you going to give him his big contract so he's happy? If you are going to give a RB a big contract, that's foolish. If you trading premium picks for a player that you are going to let walk after this season, that's foolish.  It's especially foolish when this team isn't one RB away from a Superbowl trophy.

What’s with this infatuation with trading away premium draft capital to get oft-injured running backs?
