I know 7 is to early to pick a tight end.But if we could trade down l think it would be an excellent choice. We are not getting clownly unless we trade up we do have the assets to really consider that. Not really sold on Mack or Barr for this system you don't want to use a top 10 pick on a strong side linebacker. Sammy Watkins would be nice be we also have a lot of money tied up in that position with Vincent Jackson an mike Williams but this is just my opinion.
An anonymous AFC executive wonders if North Carolina TE Eric Ebron is tough enough to catch the ball over the middle."I don't think he's tough enough to run down the seam and catch the ball in the middle," the executive said. "Is he a great athlete? Yes. Does he have good hands? Yes. Can he catch the ball in traffic? I don't think so." Ebron is viewed as the top tight end in the 2014 draft and is expected to be a mid-to-late first-round pick. He's been compared to Vernon Davis.Source: ESPN New York ==============Someone wants the TE to slide.
V Jax or Mike are probably gonna be gone by the time we extend Sammy but I wouldn't mind drafting a guy like Ebron, I rather have a guy like Sammy who would be heavily utilized in Tedfords screen game and can go over the top he reminds me of a bigger Steve smith who can outmuscle some corners in the air
7 is not too early for TE. Vernon Davis at #6 is working out just fine for SF and in retrospect Gonzalez, Witten, Graham, Gates, Gronkowski would have been great picks at #7 overall. If he's the highest player on their board at #7 there's no reason not to take him.
He won't be the highest player on their board , so that settles that.

I agree unless he runs a 4.4 and destroys the combine.
I haven't seen much of Ebron, but the couple of games I've seen he has had WTF drops in each. Scares me when you are talking top of Round 1.
Ebron is one of my favorite players in this draft. I would be thrilled if we picked him at no.7. He's going to be a baller.
Would rather have Watkins at #7. But, I do like Ebron. Would absolutely love a Watkins/ASJ combo with our first 2 picks.
I'm not a big fan of Ebron. He is a physical beast with athleticism out the wazoo...but he is inconsistent, drops a lot of balls. For every jaw dropping amazing circus catch he makes....he drops three easy ones. I don't know about his toughness, so I won't question it....but you have to wonder why he only had 4 TDs in 2012 and 3 TDs in 2013. I mean, I understand his QB isn't great, but damn. You'd think a TE being talked about as a top 20 pick would be a proven red zone weapon. This guy is getting so much hype and he had a total of 8 TDs in 3 years of college football? Touchdowns are not the only thing to look at of course. There are many factors and total TDs is probably not even that important....but it does make you wonder. He'd probably be a good pick in the 2nd round, but I would take ASJ or Amaro over Ebron.
i hate these comparisons to Vernon Davis. Davis was the fastest TE prospect in college football history and was close to the strongest. He ran a 4.3 and could bench press over 500 lbs. I like Ebron but he's not even close to that.
Yeah. I think he is a lot closer to Fred Davis than Vernon Davis.
He's a good prospect but he doesn't seem to be the rare type of prospect people (some) are making him out to be. I can see him being very much in the mix with ASJ or Amarao for top TE.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8VCxjysn3MM Ebron lines up all over the field in this year's bowl game. He beats the corner on a deep slant lined up from the x position and he holds his block on a DE through the play. He does a Blount hurdle, tho that wasn't pretty. He is lightning quick coming across the middle. He does anything and everything. And while I will admit that I don't watch a lot of his games and have only seen 4-5 of his games from 2013 the announcer did say that when he dropped the ball in was a"rare drop". So, not sure about that one how many he has dropped all up in 2013.
Yeah. I think he is a lot closer to Fred Davis than Vernon Davis.
Jermicheal Finley is the best comparison. Vernon Davis comparision is a joke by people who just want to reach for TE at #7. Not nearly as big and physical as Vernon. I've seen Ebron drop easy balls over the middle , so that concern is legit.Lots of upside but I don't think he's a top 10 pick .
