1. Defensive EndI have been reading reports all over the net about Bucs training camp and while Fatinkun and the younger guys at the bottom 3, 4, 5, and 6 of the DE depth chart are making things interesting the top two are still in murky water. Johnson and Smith are making plays in camp, however they are not dominating which is what is needed.2. Nickel corner backHas Sterling Moore even lined up as a nickel? If not then it is a massive fail for the Bucs FO not to upgrade the spot. Sure having a #4 outside CB like Moore is nice for depth. But you know what? A nickel cornerback these days is your STARTER. Leonard Johnson is an opportunistic dime back but he isn't disciplined enough to play nickel. Frey is more disciplined but his talent ceiling is limited. A zone defense collapses when you have players that free lance...as it takes only one knucklehead. That is why Goldshon and Barron were sent packing.3. Free SafetyWright may be seeing a resurgence in his play but overall the position lacks a ball hawking free that can roam back there. Right now the Bucs have safties that can not play m2m straight up. As good as McDougald is I don't see him being able to play m2m in a pinch against a slot guy for example. Not happening.4. Offensive centerEvans-Smith I think we all acknowledge is a stop gap at best currently. However, they have Gilkey cross training at offense center. And so far, I am not satisfied with what I am reading and hearing from multiple sources. It could be worse with right guard a gaping hole. But that seems okay for now.5. PunterIf Koenen remains the punter heading into the season that would be another failure on the Bucs FO. Koenen single handeledy cost this team several games for Lovie but also Schiano. He is that bad and right up there with Stocker. Koenen and Stocker should send apology letters to Schiano and Lovie for their miscues on multiple occasions on special teams.Overall, this list could be worse, or may be worse as the season progresses. But team needs are obviously checkered all over the defense at the moment. Maybe the first pre season game alters this list (eg LT, RG) or maybe the obvious will continue to hold true at the end of the year.
