I was feeling pretty confident with Trask as the backup until now. And now I'm not so sure

If Trask can't beat out Bridgewater then holy shit.

Good lord what an awful fucking pick by Licht. That draft class is dog shit. Got high on his own supply .

it was such a bad draft, it prevented us from repeating as Champs.

JTR, a kick returner, and a known back up QB at the time.  like wtf - imagine if the kick returner or back up QB pick were an OL or WR at a time where we were down AB, Godwin, and Wirfs against the Rams.

yeah judging by Licht's comments (paraphrasing) "Trask is our back-up....i mean for now, we didn't even play any games yet so we will see" basically tells me that Teddy was promised a real opportunity to be our #2 guy

i was confident with Trask as back-up since hes been with the team and knows the players and playbook but not so confident if Baker were to miss several games. They must have seen something else in practice so make them get a higher end back-up here

so many other camp arms they could have gotten with Pratt on PUP that wouldnt have been a threat to Trask....so this definitely just isn't a shrug your shoulders signing.  Trask could be in danger of getting cut or practice squaded.

obviously you can't go back in time and plug and play but the draft added no value and we knew it at the time.  Could have used depth at OT, WR, and CB.  I dont think many except for blind homers thought that Darden or Trask were good picks at the time.

who was starting opposite Evans in the Rams playoff loss?  What we have the likes of Scotty Miller and Tyler Johnson?

and i forgot who we had behind Wirfs back then.  was it Josh Wells?

so let's say hypothetically, instead of Trask, they went with WR Nico Collins or OT Spencer Brown?

and listen nobody is clairvoyant that they can see AB turning into AB or that injuries to Wirfs or Godwin happening but still my overstatement was geared towards just how brutal that draft was and that depth would have served us well given the injuries that year.

Hell, it was a kicker and longer snapper away from being the worst draft in history :)

Cool story.

And, while it was clearly a bad draft, it didn’t “prevent us from repeating as champs”.

It's tough that Trask is such steaming garbage so many years in. Bridge is going to be our backup and Trask may not make the squad come September.  Crazy.  I thought Trask would be here and be ready

I too think this had more to do with the Temu offensive line we’re dealing with until Tristan comes back. A more mobile QB, like Pratt, going down and a QB room devoid of any game/playoff experience.

It’s clear the team is readying for a deep playoff run.

Trask isn’t looking like a great fit - I think you can chalk his pick up to BA - he was pretty high on him.

Creed Humphrey one pick before Trask. Is there a more massive delta in 2 picks?

Trask can't even service as a good backup...? Wild.

I legit would have considered him a top 5 backup prior to all this new stuff.

It was an awful draft with zero foresight.

What new stuff? Two QB's getting injured and the team signing another QB to replace those reps? From the Bucs website:

The Buccaneers originally intended to have four quarterbacks throwing in camp but first-year passer Michael Pratt is on the active/PUP list and has not yet taken part in a practice. The reps have been split between starter Baker Mayfield, his primary backup Kyle Trask and undrafted rookie Connor Bazelak.

I don't think the signing has as much weight as you guys are intimating. If the organization was worried about the backup QB position, wouldn't they have signed Bridgewater a long time ago? He's been a free agent for months. This only comes after injuries to two of the four QB on the preseason roster. He may very well may stick around for the season, and I wouldn't have a problem with that. I'd feel a helluva lot better with him out there because of injuries as opposed to Pratt or Bazelak.

How does drafting a QB while you have a 44 year-old QB not qualify as foresight?

Management comments and reports from camp. This is all admittedly second hand and thus why I'm a bit shocked because I felt so confident.

"How does drafting a QB while you have a 44 year-old QB not qualify as foresight?"

I should have clarified... Foresight for the current season... Ie focusing on winning and having depth... Not a backup QB and a punt returner.

i mean, i guess we will find out, but perhaps Trask has not performed well in camp and they thought they needed an upgrade

so maybe they went into the offseason with the intentions that Trask was fine but now have second guessed themselves

the proof will be in the depth chart in September...but if i had to bet, i'd lean towards Teddy being our #2 come week 1.

Nobody seems to realize Bridgewater hasn't thrown a regular season pass since 2022 when he played three games.  He's a name, but that doesn't mean he's ready to step in and play.

2022.
