Why do people think we didn't address defense?

We draft 2 D-line and 2 CB and signed Reddick.

The glaring weakness is LB but I think we will get some camp fodder. We freed up cap space to do it.

I think those posters (that say we didn’t address defense) mean that the Bucs didn’t take the player they spent hours mocking, simulating, at the position(s) they wanted.

Thats why they ignore the solid picks we DID make.

I however am excited with our defensive picks. Didn’t we do a sneaky signing of Anthony Walker in January/February? No one will confuse him with LVD, but he’s a savvy 29 y/o vet that can play.

Yes.

the drumbeat of "BPA! BPA!" gives way to "we didn't address our needs" or "that wasn't my BPA"

I do agree he is going to be competing against other return specialists like Callaway, C. Johnson and Palmer.  It will be a battle for that last WR roster spot for sure. The problem for Tez is that his chance to make the roster as a WR is an uphill climb as he has to be out Jarrett, Shepard, Knue, etc.  So Tez has to be the best return specialist to stick.  I personally think this is a pick looking into the future for 2026.

None of those guys I would even call decent WR's. They're below average NFL Wr's. Palmer has been one of the worst graded WR's in the league for his time in it so far. If Shepard was not on the Bucs he would be out of the league. He should be put on the practice squad as it's waste having him on the 53. No one but the Bucs is signing him.

PFF charted Tez Johnson with a 100% separation rating in college. Obviously you can't go higher than that. For reference, Ebuka was at 94%. Not saying Tez is better, he's not. But it just how elite he is at getting open. Also 200 more YAC yards than anyone else.

If you can’t see that we actually improved the talent & depth on the defensive line, and secondary, you’re not paying attention.

Yes, we added additional WR - but they went after a type - the short/quick pass attack we deployed last season grinds through a lot of WR’s and we didn’t have the depth at a critical point in the season. I also think the Bucs would still like to add a more reliable 9 route guy, as Palmer has not shown reliability.

We’ll see.

Tez needs to be able to block if he wants to make the team, you gotta be able to be good at your role. Sometimes you need battle tested guys who are ready to go in the fray with. Sheperd demeanor and readiness for the saints in our first matchup is hard to take out of the 53, cause you know when youre out there with him he's gonna jumping in the fray with the boys and the energy on the sidelines is sometimes the punch in the mouth our team needs.

We got a lot of ncie guys but need some guys ready to bury another guy which is why I like having at least one or two guys like Ayers,Jensen, JPP, Suh...killer instinct

Tez is elite getting open against zone. Not good. Not great. Elite.

He's so quick/shifty in space.

This is an amazing pick.

He can runs special teams... And let's get real, those WRs return are ass. Tez should immediately cover punts... He did it his whole college career.

To those saying he has to be able to block? Well sure... But I'm not watching Tank Dell throw down with any regularity and when he did on the goal line he broke his leg.

Tez is gonna have to prove it but R/R this is an A+++ pick.

If he gets hurt or doesn't make the team all your risked was a late 7th.

Him and Bucky are good friends too. Great story

Sheppard is one foot in the grave.

Anyone not named Evans, Egbuka, Godwin, or McMillan are easily replaceable.

Tez as a wr5 is great. McMillan isn't a great blocker so...

Can't expect much from the 7th round picks. What is Tez Johnson going to do at 150 pounds soaking wet?  We'll see.  Will he be the Mugsy Bogues of the NFL?  Here's the list of 7th rounders chosen by Licht:

Joey Iosefa, Steve Tuiokovatu, Terry Beckner, Chapelle Russell, Raymond Calais, Chris Wilcox, Grant Stuard, Andre Anthony, Devin Culp and now Tez Johnson.   3 of 9 actually made the team.  The others got the ax on cutdown day.   Which is pretty normal for 7th rounders, so I'm not bashing Licht.  Just pointing out that the Licht magic doesn't extend to 7th round picks.

Those three were Russell, Stuard and Culp.   Russell played in 11 games for the Bucs.  Stuard, Mr. Irrelevant has had a pretty good career with the Bucs and Colts.  He signed with the Lions for 2025.  Culp actually caught 5 out of 6 targets and looks good for making the team again this year. So if Tez makes the team at all he'll be doing well.  I wouldn't count on him to make a big impact.

Its how guys make the team. If your only ability is being able to catch, and from the slot, well they got 4 other guys that can do that JMC,EG,SS,CG he's only gonna see the field if hes able to block, and be a threat in the run game. His best chance is becoming the #1 returner. Sheperd been having 1 foot in the grave since last year.

The #5/6 receiver isnt looked to see playing time, unless its on special teams, so unless he can be one of the gunners(miller/palmer) or return punts(palmer/K.johnson), dont expect him on the offense, which is where physicality like blocking or wanting to tackle will allow him to be on the roster. A lot of our run plays force our slot to get into the box and into the fray. Tez has to beat those guys out in those specific ST jobs, and do dirty work

Dell has 3rd rnd draft capital invested he's gonna hvae all the chances in the world. Just like mcmillan hes gonna have all the chances in the world

I think Warren Sharp had the pick as one of the better value picks in the draft.

Let the elite blocking WR’s - Chris Godwin & Emeka Egbuka - do the blocking. Why would we even worry whether an elite YAK guy, like Tez, can block?

Create confusion in the opposing defensive secondary - hit Dez with a slant or hitch - and see if he can take it to the house!

I suppose.  When they showed Licht talking to Tez, Tez asked him why he didn't pick him sooner and Licht said because he didn't have a 6th round pick.  So maybe he would have been a 6th round pick.  But even then the 6th round picks are usually minor role players at best.  There's a huge dropoff from 5th to 6th. In the 5th you can think about getting guys who have a chance to to make a real impact like Dennis and McCollum, amazing picks for that round. But in the 6th and beyond it's been nothing but minor players like Ko Kieft and Josh Hayes.  Scotty Miller is the best Licht can show for his 6th round.
