I suppose. When they showed Licht talking to Tez, Tez asked him why he didn't pick him sooner and Licht said because he didn't have a 6th round pick. So maybe he would have been a 6th round pick. But even then the 6th round picks are usually minor role players at best. There's a huge dropoff from 5th to 6th. In the 5th you can think about getting guys who have a chance to to make a real impact like Dennis and McCollum, amazing picks for that round. But in the 6th and beyond it's been nothing but minor players like Ko Kieft and Josh Hayes. Scotty Miller is the best Licht can show for his 6th round.I think Warren Sharp had the pick as one of the better value picks in the draft.
i think Sharp defined "value" as when picked as compared to when he was projected to be picked, not the relative success of the pick.
if a 7th round guy makes the team that is good. Contribute on special teams, a win. Get on the field as a WR, great!
Tez needs to be able to block if he wants to make the team, you gotta be able to be good at your role. Sometimes you need battle tested guys who are ready to go in the fray with. Sheperd demeanor and readiness for the saints in our first matchup is hard to take out of the 53, cause you know when youre out there with him he's gonna jumping in the fray with the boys and the energy on the sidelines is sometimes the punch in the mouth our team needs.
We got a lot of ncie guys but need some guys ready to bury another guy which is why I like having at least one or two guys like Ayers,Jensen, JPP, Suh...killer instinct
Yeah I have to agree.
On any other roster Tez has a good chance of making the team but the Bucs WR unit is so competitive that it is the best unit on this team easily. The cuts last year were brutal because it was so competitive. C. Johnson was an undrafted rookie that made the squad and he was highly thought of by Grizzard and Coen because of his juice. Calloway was always a return threat as a Saint so as a Buc he has a shot to stick along with being a deep threat like Palmer And Grizzard wants to incorporate more deep passing plays so I wouldn't close the book on Calloway or Palmer from making the team just yet. Knue was a tough cut last year because he was literally glue hands out there.
I think if Tez can beat out this murder's row of talent at WR he DESERVES the roster spot easily. Easily.
Considering how deep we are at the position, he'll have an uphill climb in camp.
Would be cool if he stuck as a ST'er.
If we stash him on the PS I'm fairly certainly he'll get taken
this murder's row of talent at WR
Great to be able to describe our WR depth like that
SR also has him as an impact rookie because of punt return skills. And the demise of Trey Palmer
"It feels like Trey Palmer is on his way out as he hit a real sophomore slump last year as a receiver and a returner. Palmer averaged just eight yards per return with a long of 17 yards despite having 4.33 speed. I could see Johnson winning the punt return job and excelling there. That would make him active on game day where he can be a gadget player and part-time contributor on offense for Josh Grizzard.

His speed doesn't translate in-game for whatever reason... Not shifty
Tez should beat him out. We shall see

You have more insight than me, but he sure look the part. The Bucs post-draft videos even show him running some of our regular plays (jet sweep, screen, seam pass etc) with the Ducks

Unfortunately, we all know Bowles will COMMIT MALPRACTICE and probably force Grizz to use Tez as a Guard. Maybe even blocking for Emmitt Smith . .err . . Tucker ?
Sorry, edited for Red Board consistency
:-)
Kameron Johnson and Palmer were the return specialists last year for the Bucs so at this point Tez does have an uphill climb to stick to the roster. Grizzard is very fond of Kameron Johnson so I wouldn't be so quick to hand Tez a roster spot.

He's ELITE at getting open. He fell because his straight line speed sucks and he's small.
I thought he'd go in the 5th or 6th, so a 7th is amazing value.
Nothing is a guarantee but I truly think this kid, along with Bucky, are going to be special.
At the very least he offers us special teams help, depth, and we could try to stash him on the PS if we felt like the other guys were somehow better.

The next time a jet sweep is successful I'll be letting JC know
If Grizzard had his fingerprints on anything, it was the Tez Johnson pick. Bet he sees the field this season as ST/PR team - and he gives you 3rd down vibes too.Tez should beat him out. We shall see

I like him, especially as a 6th round value pick. Licht seems to get immediate contributions from mid-to-late round draft picks, even 7th rounders.

It is possible Tez sticks because Grizzard was fond of Johnson as a utility player and Tez can provide that on jet sweeps for example. It is possible that both K. Johnson and Tez stick or even all three return specialists in Palmer, Johnson and Tez stick.
Keeping 7 WRs is a possibility because on defense they have players that can play multiple spots (eg Roberts, Izien, Smith, Hayes, etc).
