I love our running game. I love Bucky. But our passing game opens up our running game.
and vice versa
All the things that Canales talked about matter (down & distance, 1st down success etc) but he didnt know how to deliver them. Coen was legit, adapting plays through the season, showing defenses looks to set them up for a big change just later in the same game.
all works best wne the offense is balanced and not falling far behind
even better defense is getting stops. hard to imagine "even better" but throw in a bunch of turnovers and last year's offense is lighting it up even more.
great thread

Now you’re not having a discussion in good faith.
Yet again, the irony is rich with Captain Cosplay.
Does he just copy/paste this shit breakdown or do you think he types it out fresh every single time?

Lefty<Canales<Coen ???<> Grizz

Lefty<Canales<Coen ???<> Grizz
Lefty was not really an OC, just a play caller (and a flunky for a GOAT).
Canales was not an OC either, but he was a great coach and leader, still just mostly copying what he had seen (eg Godwin outside). Fortunately it was a formula that works and he adjusted some, but nothing like Coen. Coen was legit.
Interested to see what Grizz brings. Is he his own guy or more Canales/Lefty play caller. Hoping very much his own guy.
There were plenty here who worried about a step back going from Canales to Coen, especially for Mayfield. Maybe Grizz will take that step back? Maybe not.
How was Canales not an OC?
Of course he was an OC.
Clearly, it was apparent that he was a rookie play caller. But, for the first time in recent memory, he installed an offense that actually schemed guys open.
Far cry from the Low-IQ Lefty experiment.
Grizzard comes across as someone who is well thought out. I sense we will continue with very aggressive play calling early in the game. With our talent on offense, unless there are significant injuries, I don’t see us slowing down with Grizzard. He’s smart, young, and experienced with two of the best offensive minds in the league. The word from league insiders is he’s super organized and prepared. He’ll want to make his own name. I see more Sean Tucker in his offense.
Gotta mix it up but also attack what's working best. If run is killing the other team there's no reason to stop. If pass or one wr is killing a player or players he will or should get a bulk to dominate. You do what works. I feel like we've had habits on offense and d to try something enough if it's not working. I think we have enough talent to mix it up though. Bucky and running game is really good but our wrs and baker are just as good if not better. Mis matches all over the offense. Grizzard will have a tough time doing as well as maybe Coen did but he's got a lot of weapons to help him and if he goes into the teams strengths in that particular game he will be fine.

definitely not criticizing. He installed an offense that just copied the Seahawks. Proof of that was he put Godwin outside. He did exactly what people here often criticize. He did not play to the strength of his players.
He did adjust some late but compare that to Coen who started with a creative offense that confused defenses and even then he changed it up week to week went to gap running etc.
Both were in the same role but were very different. Canales was a head coach killing time as an OC. Maybe Coen is the same but some of the reporting on his personality says maybe not.
And yes Lefty just a guy reading off a sheet
Yea I think grizzard cna be as good as Coen but Coen's run game and philosophy had its own wrinkles being that his dad coached a lot of Wing T and Wishbone and you could see those wrinkles on sundays when Coen called his runs.
Do I think Grizzard and Carberry can give those necessary and timely wrinkles we just gotta see. Will miss those wing T jet wrinkles Coen added back to the NFL game.
Our passing game and concepts will be ready, but some cool run game concepts may not be there, or maybe we see more. Grizzard strikes me as a guy who has good idea what he wants to do, and if he ran those 3rd down packages he has a very good grasp on what we did last year because you could see how successful the 3rd down plays coalesce together with 1st and 2nd downs

A lot of the time I was wondering if he could even read. And I hated his smug look on his face with his nose up in the air.
BTT. Sometimes the student turns out to be better than the mentor. You have to believe that Grizz was actively involved with Coen creating and shaping the Bucs offense. There's plenty of Coen film for Grizz to watch. And Arians is still in the building if he gets stumped and needs help. Until proven otherwise, I'm choosing to have confidence in Grizz and his ability to lead the Bucs offense.
How was Canales not an OC?
Of course he was. And for the perpetually uninformed, he still is coordinating the offense as HC/playcaller.
