The Bucs can hopefully stop their run game BUT one strength of the 49ers plays right in to a weakness of the Bucs defense:
"With defensive game plans centered on him in 2025, McCaffrey is seventh among all players in receiving yards per game (77.4) and yards after catch (278), and third in receptions (39). At his current pace, McCaffrey would finish with 1,316 receiving yards and shatter the NFL record for receiving yards in a season by a running back (Del Shofner's 1,097 in 1958). He also has three receiving touchdowns through five games (tied for most by a running back this season)."
Yeah that's gonna be rough. Gotta get pressure..gonna have to blitz.
Catch 22
Look forward to ehinote's write up, but man this is a pretty pivotal match. I think weve lost to the 49ers something like 5 times in a row. Last time a decimated Bucs team, so would love to sneak a win here especially with the Lions waiting.
Not only have to focus on CMC, but also watch out for Kittle abusing our LBs.
given the injuries in the secondary and with the way Mac Jones is slinging the ball, yeah we may have to put up 30+ to win again this week.

I thought Kittle was out but yes that is the problem I was thinking of with CMC

yep
Interested to watch it play out. Two teams with significant injuries. I think ehinote makes this point often, but it sure would be noice to see the Bucs come out scoring TDs early.

Thanks, he's out until possibly game 7.
No worries. SR mentions the wheel route where McCafferty torched LVD for 30+

It all comes down to stopping CMC, especially now that we know that kittle isn't going to play. CMC is the engine to their entire offense; stop him and they're a peashooter offense, as mac jones is strictly a dink and dunk passer. A lot easier said than done, but that's the gameplan.
If we can do that, TB should win by two scores.

Not sure "strictly" is an accurate description. He's got a 7.0 YPA, which is better than Mahomes, Herbert, Daniels, Hurts, and tied with Dak at 19th out of 37 QB's.
For reference, Mayfield has a 7.5 YPA - which is 12th out of 37 QB's.

have you watched him play? He has a very average arm. he isn't going to throw over the top 40 yards downfield, ever. Stop looking at Y/A and watch the film. Mac Jones is a known quantity, which is to say he is an underneath passer, in the same mold as Purdy, Tua, etc.

didnt you guys have the "verticals were not in Mayfield's wheelhouse" argument last season?
has anyone seen the NFL video of the 9 greatest deep passes? Mayfield in the video TWICE. It came up again after his BOMB to Egbuka

Do you not know what the word "strictly" means?
I'm guessing there is some middle ground between "dink and dunk passer" and throwing the ball "over the top 40 yards downfield," but Shanny's offense is mostly a short-passing offense. That is the majority of the throws you'll see, especially with the injuries (no Kittle, Aiyuk, Jennings, etc.) they have right now.
Regarding, "he isn't going to throw over the top 40 yards downfield, ever." You may want to reevaluate that statement.
So I went back and checked out several scouting reports both prior to his draft, from the combine and a couple scouting reports post draft. Also watched 4 vids of his highlights and another couple film study clips and every one is consistent. Jones is very accurate, throws with good anticipation, but doesn’t possess better than average NFL arm strength. The film jibes with those assessments; he can throw with more velocity than Purdy, but he’s not a top tier passer in terms of arm strength, per everyone.
that doesn’t mean I think he can’t throw a pass farther than 10 yds, but judging from the multiple tapes I just watched, he would struggle with deep outs or any throws that would require high velocity to beat the DB to the field side more than 15-20 yds downfield. His game appears to be between the numbers out to about 25 yds or so.
