mac jones is strictly a dink and dunk passer.
Not sure "strictly" is an accurate description. He's got a 7.0 YPA, which is better than Mahomes, Herbert, Daniels, Hurts, and tied with Dak at 19th out of 37 QB's.
For reference, Mayfield has a 7.5 YPA - which is 12th out of 37 QB's.
have you watched him play? He has a very average arm. he isn't going to throw over the top 40 yards downfield, ever. Stop looking at Y/A and watch the film. Mac Jones is a known quantity, which is to say he is an underneath passer, in the same mold as Purdy, Tua, etc.
didnt you guys have the "verticals were not in Mayfield's wheelhouse" argument last season?
has anyone seen the NFL video of the 9 greatest deep passes? Mayfield in the video TWICE. It came up again after his BOMB to Egbuka
Baker’s bomb to Mek last weekend traveled 61 airyards.
So I went back and checked out several scouting reports both prior to his draft, from the combine and a couple scouting reports post draft. Also watched 4 vids of his highlights and another couple film study clips and every one is consistent. Jones is very accurate, throws with good anticipation, but doesn’t possess better than average NFL arm strength. The film jibes with those assessments; he can throw with more velocity than Purdy, but he’s not a top tier passer in terms of arm strength, per everyone. His arm strength was described as “good enough “ multiple times.
that doesn’t mean I think he can’t throw a pass farther than 10 yds, but judging from the multiple tapes I just watched, he would struggle with deep outs or any throws that would require high velocity to beat the DB to the field side more than 15-20 yds downfield. His game appears to be between the numbers out to about 25 yds or so.
It will be another close game I think. Although I'm thinking we have a chance to ride some momentum from last week and put together another offensive game and if the defense is up to the task we can make this difficult for the traveling niners.

thats pretty vertical
The 49ers are going to try to do a lot of long drives on offense because I can not see them gaining huge chunk plays with their current personnel on offense. Bucs need to disrupt this and force a few punts. Do that and the Bucs offense scores early and the Bucs have a chance of stealing another W.
Defense doesn't need to be lights out but a few forced punts and turnovers may be more than enough for the win.
Mac Jones can push the ball downfield but he really is an intermediate type of a passer. I wouldn't classify him as a dink and dunk QB although Shanahan may have to play call this way due to the injuries on the 49ers offense and lacking enough players to run a full playbook.
Which means Tonga, Bourne and CMC are pretty much it.
MVS is a deep threat with size but Mac isn't known for the jump ball downfield. Robinson is a veteran that can make plays here and there and Moore has some jets. But really isolate Bourne on the perimeter, keep Tonga underneath and try to limit CMC.
And if the Bucs run defense can not stop CMC, Robinson Jr and Guerendo then it will be very hard to win for the Bucs.

No Pearsall too. With their top 4 receivers and QB out, they may actually be more injured than Tampa. Should be easy for the defense.

Because everyone knows Shanahan and CMC are . . well . . . yeah . . .easy?
They put up 26 on Rams. Rams D probably averaging 20 or so. The 49ers back up QB (Jones) threw for 2 TDs and about 350 yds. CMC had about 130 offensive yards and a TD
@biggs3535 Should be but the Rams got torched by Bourne and Mccaffery in the passing game. I don't think we can do much better given our injuries in the secondary and the awful Lber play we've been getting.
While the Rams front seven is more active attacking the QB compared to the Bucs they are an undersized group. The Bucs have a larger front seven in terms of size and Vea is simply better than Ford. Not a knock on Ford but Vea is a step up and Gaines/Hall are better than Turner and Fiske as a run defenders based on my eyeballs.
Also the Bucs have a more athletic secondary back end. Durant, Curl, Kinchens and Forbes are solid players but they are not on the same level of Dean, Parrish, Smith and Winfield Jr.
Bucs defense should be able to eliminate any deep shots and defend the boundary. If Dean is on Bourne than Parrish can handle any other player the 49ers throw on the boundary (including CMC). Smith and Winfield Jr will have to play a bit tighter midfield because they are going to go with CMC and Tonga a lot as their only chance to move the chains.

Absolutely. The Rams turned the ball over twice and didn’t get any on defense, and the game still went down to the last second in overtime - with McVay shitting the bed on 4th down. If the Bucs can win the turnover battle, they should be good.
Some props I like for tomorrow.
Like all year last year, Todd hasn't disappointed with some EASY wins so far this season.
I like:
- Mac Jones over 1.5 TD passes (+115)
- Can get him at 2+ for (+450)
- Mac Jones over 275+ yards passing (+165)
- Tempted to take him at 300+ yards passing (+325)
- Jake Tonges ATD + Over 3.5 receptions + Over 34.5 yards receiving
- I took this 3-legger last week for 1.5 units and hit big on it (though I may drop the yardage total for this one)
- CMC over 53.5 receiving yards (-115)
- This looks like a steal.
- Has hit the over on this number 4 of 5 games this season
Taking a longer look at the Bucs lineup.

I like all this but for whatever reason I think we see a rare Bowles gem with Mac not 100% and not mobile.
I like White anytime score. Like Sheppard over 2.5 receptions

For the last 24+ games, I've bet against it HEAVILY and am up a ridiculous amount.
I mean, the sun shines on a dog's ass every now and then, right?
Still want to wait until tomorrow morning to plug in my Buc's props.
But, already plugged in a few units on the Shep bet you mentioned.
Let's circle back tomorrow and tail a parlay together?
To Blitz or not to Blitz? Jones struggles with the blitz but we are with backup CBs.
Does Bowles bring the pressure or lay back like against Seattle?
