I caught something interesting that the announcer said at the end of the Pats/Eagles game. He mentioned that with all the OLTE(OLINE as TE) helps with depth because they had an olineman go down late. I thought about and it makes some sense. It can be seen with the Bucs with Pamphile and at a time Fregel. These guys were getting some playing time for rushing plays. From what I've read these two guys were developing well, before Fragel got injured he was getting better.I believe the primary reason to use the OLTE is to help with Jameis development. Koetter mentioned at the end of the preseason how there's plenty of ways to protect a QB. So my question to the board is what are the advantages and disadvantages of using the OLTE in the right doses. IMy quick two cents:Advantage:I believe it gives lineman a chance to get game day experience. Get used to NFL speed with disrupting the cohesion the starting 5 with multiple substitutions along the line. Plus if done right it can greatly help run/pass protection.Disadvantage:One less receiving threat downfield. On running downs it can be a clear hint as to what the plan is.
